Mindful Eating During the Holidays

My clients tell me that "Thanksgiving is all about the food" or that other holidays this time of the year are difficult because of all the food. The holidays will be all about whatever we decide to make them about. They can surely be about suffering because we are so challenged by Christmas cookies, Hannukah cookies, Kwanza cookies or anything else that we think we will die without but think we "shouldn't have". Or, perhaps, this year it can be about being with our family & friends in a loving, meaningful way that warms our hearts & fills us up on the inside in a way that food never will.

When we do eat, we can feel gratitude for the food, really allowing ourselves to savor the flavor, textures, smells that are present. If we are truly "present" for the experience of eating, we will be satisfied with less food than if we mindlessly stuff food into our mouths, missing the entire experience.

We always have choices. Be sure that you are mindful of what you choose this holiday season so that it is a beautiful experience for you and your loved ones.
