Why You Should Always Eat Watermelon Seeds

It turns out that eating black watermelon seeds will not spawn the growth of a watermelon in your stomach! In fact, not only can you eat the seeds, they are quite good for you. Black watermelon seeds are good for hair, skin, nails and brain. They are loaded with protein, amino acids, B-vitamins, minerals and healthy fats.

Watermelon seed facts:

  • Watermelon seeds have over 30 grams of protein per cup.
  • The most prevalent B vitamin in watermelon seeds is niacin, followed by folate, thiamin, riboflavin, vitamin B6 and pantothenic acid.
  • Magnesium is the most abundant mineral in watermelon seeds, followed by phosphorous, iron, potassium, sodium, copper, manganese and zinc.
  • Watermelon seeds contain “good fats,” the ones good for brain health such as monounsaturated fats, polyunsaturated fats, and omega-6 fatty acids.

You can eat the black watermelon seeds raw, but you can also scoop them out and dry roast them in an oven pan, as they make a super snack food similar to roasted pumpkin seeds which are more familiar to most people.

Just found this: According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Pesticide Fact Sheet, forchlorfenuron causes inflammation, growth retardation, emaciation, and increased mortality in rats tested. Look Out For White seeds in Watermelons

Most watermelons sold at wholesale markets are believed to have been treated with forchlorfenuron. Telltale signs are fibrous, misshapen fruit with mostly white instead of black seeds. Don't eat them! Buy organic watermelon with black seeds only.

I can't quite remember the last time I have eaten a watermelon with seeds. Most are genetically modified.
