by Jacqueline Hatch One of the most important lessons I learned growing up is the importance of giving some of what you have to others. Every year around the holidays, my father would give me $100 to donate to a local charity. I remember the way I felt going into an animal shelter or soup kitchen and handing the check over to a tired volunteer. I can still vividly recall the smiles that would spread across their faces,... 4/23/2018 7:00:00 AM
by Susan Kramer, APRN,BC Elevate your legs while at work or sitting at your computer. The purpose of elevating your legs is so the blood will be pumped back to your heart and not pool in your legs.Always wear low-healed footwear. Wearing high heels puts a lot of tension on your calf muscles and can not only increase the tension on your foot muscles, but can also promote extra pressure on your calf muscles and promote spider... 4/23/2018 7:00:00 AM
by Andrea Hutton I am lucky enough to be almost 9 years out from my breast cancer diagnosis. Those 3,285 days have been filled with some really bad moments and some pretty amazing ones as well. Just like life before cancer. HA! Nothing has been the same since I had a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation. Not to mention the scans, blood tests, and the stack of pills I still take every day to keep the cancer at bay.... 4/23/2018 7:00:00 AM
by Judah Gutwein, L.N.H.A. What is Hospice?Hospice, as a strictly clinical designation, means the patient has been given 6 months (or less) to live. However, beyond purely clinical terms, none of us can predict the inevitability of any future outcome. Therefore, at our facilities (Regency Nursing Centers of New Jersey), we place a special focus on the power of choice and the preservation of life and the quality of life in every... 4/18/2018 7:00:00 AM

by Lisa B. Capp Between 2000 and 2015 death from Alzheimer’s disease increased 123%. In the same period death from other major diseases in our country declined. This data point may surprise you as Alzheimer’s and related dementias today still share a common reality; they cannot be prevented, slowed or cured. After my mother’s death in 2015, I met with her geriatric psychiatrist. Our conversation transported me back... 4/17/2018 7:00:00 AM
by Heather Sears Scientists have found we make 225+ daily mealtime decisions and are unconscious of around 200 of them. After going through a stressful period of life and literally choking through multi-tasking, unhealthy meals, I began applying a personal mindfulness approach around all areas of food – meal planning, shopping, cooking and eating. The result was more time, ease, enjoyment, more wholesome choice and... 4/17/2018 7:00:00 AM
by Emily Marquis In our career, we don’t get to always choose our co-workers and I know I have butted heads with some of my colleagues. As an HR professional and Coach, I’ve been called into sticky situations. I’ve handled them well and other times wished for a do-over. In my personal life, I have had to practice difficult conversations repeatedly, ugh. Whether at the water fountain or dinner table, I would love to... 4/17/2018 7:00:00 AM
by Lara Jaye After being married 25 years, I’m suffering a bit from PTSD. Not necessarily from the divorce but rather from being thrown back into the dating pool! Maybe you are like me too, where finding that ideal partner has seemed like a bad joke on most days. For many, dating is a game. A competitive activity involving skill, chance, or endurance on the part of two or more persons who play according to a set... 4/17/2018 7:00:00 AM
by Robert Parmer The workplace hippie. The "overly" health conscious individual. The granola. The mediation junkie. These are all phrases I’ve heard being thrown around at work to describe those free-thinkers who aren’t quite content enough with typical rhythm of an office workplace.I am that person, and I am not ashamed! I’ve decided to take the road to long term wellness, and I’ve found my route through mindful meditation... 4/14/2018 9:00:00 PM
