Dr. Austin attends International Auriculotherapy Conference.

In August of 2006 I attended a 4-day International seminar in Chicago. The seminar which was entitled the International Consensus Conference on Acupuncture, Auriculotherapy and Auricular Medicine 2006 (ICCAAAM '06) was sponsored by the Auriculotherapy Certification Institute and approved for 30 continuing education credit hours by Logan College of Chiropractic. It was only the second international conference of it's kind to occur on U.S. soil.
The latest in auriculotherapy (ear acupuncture) research and techniques for diagnosis, pain control, and treating addictions (to include smoking cessation) were discussed by nearly 40 presenters from five different countries: Canada, China, Germany, France and the U.S.
The seminar covered many facets of auriculotherapy, which is a system of ear acupuncture that was discovered in the 1950's by French Medical Doctor Paul Nogier and is now referred to as 'the ultimate for pain relief'. In modern times, these ear acupuncture points are now treated without needles using an electrical stimulation device for 30 seconds per point. In fact, of the 570 auriculotherapy points, most patients need only from 6 to 8 points treated depending on their particular condition.
Four cranial nerves (i.e., nerves that come directly from the brain) terminate on the ear, which explains why most patients respond very quickly to auriculotherapy treatments. Most patients with musculoskeletal symptoms will notice a major improvement within 3 treatments, and 80 % of nicotine addicts (cigarette smokers) usually quit smoking in 3 treatments or less.
I am a 1993 graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic , who practices at Austin Family Chiropractic on the West Side of the Virden, IL Square. I've been practicing needle acupuncture since 1993, I've been using needleless state-of-the-art laser acupuncture since 2005, and I've been practicing auriculotherapy since 5/06.
