by Chani An excuse not to work out, or a REASON TO work out. As a personal trainer, people want to talk to me about how they used to work out, or the reasons why they can't work out. My favorite conversations are about the body, how to move it, and new ideas. So approach me, I want to talk to you. Unfortunately, I often hear, "I can't do anything right now because (insert excuse here)"... Well, I'm here to... 7/19/2009 11:43:39 AM
by wojcik11 To many, the idea of eliminating dairy from their diet seems an impossible request. We love our dairy....we love our cheese! Many of us won't give it up without a fight, but once we do..we see clearly why dairy is just for baby cows! Dairy is a very common allergen for many individuals. We do not make the lactase enzyme along our gastrointestinal tracts after childhood, and so many people experience... 7/15/2009 4:29:44 AM
by Janet_Levine As the June 21 summer solstice heralded the summer months many of us pulled out road maps to study the routes for our summer vacation trips. Do we want the scenic route through the mountains this time, or the quicker drive along the highway? Or maybe even we should try the third option we have always wanted to see-the coastal route-even if it adds half a day to our drive time. Do we want to stay in... 7/9/2009 11:51:31 AM
by Chani Ready or not, swimsuit season is here! I was shopping the other day.. and you know what? They seriously need to change the lighting in the dressing rooms! Lights from above... should only come from Heaven. Not dressing room ceilings! With that said, I worry about the self talk that goes on in these rooms. Listen to me, lose the negative reflection of yourself, and take action. Here are some ways to... 7/1/2009 1:41:36 PM
by Janet_Levine By Janet Levine This is the season of graduation addresses and the one by Paul Hawken to the Class of 2009 at the University of Portland, May 3rd, 2009 was singular. Hawken is an environmentalist, entrepreneur, journalist, and author. Starting at age 20, he dedicated his life to sustainability and changing the relationship between business and the environment. So he knows about generational change.... 6/17/2009 10:32:52 AM
by Dr Praver 6-16-09 I began talking about love and the brain yesterday. President Obama considered empathy as central to his pick for Supreme Court judge. By empathy he meant the ability to walk in someone else's shoes, not to be like them, but to resonate with them. I think empathy is essential in the psychology of politics and in the psychology of love. If extreme right wing and hate groups had more empathy... 6/16/2009 12:25:24 PM
by Chani There is nothing prettier than shapely legs and a round back side! I hear all the time...I want to tighten up my thighs, and lift my butt. Lyposuction aside, you have to build the muscle. All hail the stiff legged dead lift! I change it up a little by adding a step and a stretch. Stand on a step about 5 inches from the floor. Bend at your knees to pick up the weight. I use dumb bells or a barbell.... 6/15/2009 7:29:41 PM
by Dr Praver So much hate out there. Extremism, terrorism, abortion doctor killings, white supremacist killing blacks and Jews, what about love? Remember the love generation of the seventies? I miss it. Do you? As a psychologist and book author, I think it's time to bring love back. If we all focus on the psychology and neurobiology of love we could even usher in a new era. Did you know that the psychology of politics... 6/15/2009 9:55:24 AM
by Chani You better think again... When my grandmother had reached her 82nd birthday, her mind was sharp as a tack, but her body failed her. I so vividly remember sitting with her on the couch as she couldn't hold up her head due to a muscular degenerative disease and osteoporosis. She said, "You don't even think about your health when you are in your 30's or 40's, what would I be like had a I taken better... 6/9/2009 3:14:54 PM
by wojcik11 A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that begins in any part of the urinary system, from the kidneys, to the ureters or bladder and urethra. Women tend to be at greater risk of UTI and are generally prescribed antiboiotic treatment, which in some cases can lead to recurrent infections due to increasingly resistant bacteria. There are, however, natural remedies for UTI that could prevent... 5/28/2009 10:54:02 AM
