by Donald McGee Thanks Greta, TMorros, Walknred, B Your Best, Beth: Nice responses. I would hope that Congress does address the private insurance market and make it more competitive as, at the moment, local insurance companies capture vast amounts of revenue and are more interested in their investments than patient care it would seem. They outsource any preventive measures to far distant companies that offer nurses... 10/2/2009 7:00:00 AM
by Donald McGee I had a nice meeting today with which I hope forms a part of the start up core of the Personal Care Community. I met "Steve" and "Teresa" and others who are more interested in a website that gives people choices and supports consumer directed health care. It's a huge hurtle to think of ways for people to change their ways, but often it takes small tools, education, and support to head in the direction... 9/29/2009 7:00:00 AM
by Eric Udell, N.D., M.Ed. If you suffer from chronic headaches, you are not alone. According to the National Headache Foundation, more than 45 million Americans suffer from chronic headaches and almost 30 million suffer from migraines. Headaches are one of the top 10 reasons why people visit doctors in the United States and are responsible for 157 million lost workdays each year. Headaches diminish your quality of life and... 9/24/2009 3:14:36 PM
by Janet_Levine Generation E: Back to School Lessons By Janet Levine We are in that mode again. Either already back at school, or anticipating the change from the summer months to the academic year. This is true for students, teachers, parents and anyone who is involved in any way in the educational system. Come the inevitable cycling of the seasons from summer to fall and we all experience an inner realization of... 9/24/2009 9:25:43 AM
by Donald McGee I am about to head off to another ER shift. I was witnessed to a poignant event last night as a woman went through the transition of death right in front of me as her loved ones stood in witness and support. It is so common in emergency medicine to have the last moments of life in the ER-- right in the middle of many other, much more mundane events going on. I count myself privileged to live and work... 9/15/2009 7:00:00 AM
by Kalpana Madhavan, DMD MDS Do it once but Do it right, dental treatment options! Imagine a world with no crowns! No temporaries, no extra visits and no extra dental shots! Well that world has become a reality now! We live in a CAD-CAM world and dentistry has been revolutionized by what computers can do to teeth needing restorations. CAD-CAM dentistry has been around for over 25 years. Over past 2-3 years this technology has... 9/13/2009 11:05:49 PM
by Beth Rosenshein A little background first, then on to healthcare reform... Treatment of profound hypogonadism uses hormone products to replace the hormones of the ovaries (female gonads) with the same hormones, in the same levels, just as if the ovaries were still working. The 'HRT' used in clinical trials like the Women's Health Initiative creates hormone levels that are never seen in healthy women during their entire... 9/3/2009 8:27:12 AM
by Donald McGee In Answer to Greta's comment from the previous section: I have no idea what congress is going to do. All I know is that unless these monies are taken to a PERSONAL LEVEL, they will not result in prevention and wellness. For example, Farmers' Markets (which are in the bill) are fine, but the person and his or her "play group" (as I call it) need to make it "their" market. It needs to be a cultural event.... 8/29/2009 7:00:00 AM
by Donald McGee The Triad of Wellness and the INTEGRAL acronym I really want to stay out of the national debate on health just because I think they are all wrong. The only way to reduce costs is by embracing sophisticated wellness and prevention, and learning all the skills to take personal care of oneself even in the face of disease. Health is PERSONAL and the only ones who can impact real change and behaviors are... 8/16/2009 7:00:00 AM
by Chani LOSE THE LAZY, AMERICA! That's it! We're done. Its time to make some serious changes, and nice doesn't seem to be working. I'm FIRED UP! And you should be too. Lets get mad together. Did you know that American emergency crews are beginning to equip their ambulances with hydraulic stretchers that can handle up to 700 pounds? Seven Hundred Pounds..... How does that make you feel? We are out of control.... 8/12/2009 9:06:58 AM
