An Essential Oil That Aids in Cancer Protection?

It’s weird how we associate certain words with certain things. At times, our association is obvious, and at other times, it makes no sense at all.

Let me give you an obvious example: frankincense. What does it make you think of?

This powerful essential oil is far from a grotesque monster. It’s actually a resin derived from Boswellia trees, which grow in North Africa and the Middle East. You may have heard of this popular oil from Dr. Oz, in The Truth About Cancer series, and other popular media.

Frankincense has a few powerful properties that are worth sharing. Why do you need this essential oil for cancer protection and other health benefits?

Suppress Tumor Cell Growth

Tentative research is showing that frankincense oil can actually help suppress tumor growth and cancer cells. This sets frankincense up for many more studies that are needed to show just how potent this oil is at treating cancer.

Research regarding ovarian cancer and frankincense has been promising although not yet concrete. The study wasn’t peer reviewed, but researchers found that frankincense effectively fought late-stage ovarian cancer cells in a lab.

There has been research that’s a little stronger in the case for frankincense as a cancer treatment—frankincense was proven to suppress the growth of bladder tumor cells in one study. This research shows just how many more studies need to be done to prove frankincense’s worth for fighting cancer naturally.

Fights Inflammation

The root cause of many chronic illnesses—including cancer—is inflammation. Inflammation can be responsible for cell mutation over time. When the body is constantly fighting inflammation, it can weaken the immune system.

Fortunately for us, frankincense helps to stop inflammation. Frankincense contains a compound called boswellic acid, which inhibits chemicals involved in inflammation. Boswellic acid in the form of frankincense may also help stop free radicals in the body, which could help prevent cancer.

Although the jury is still out on whether or not frankincense could fight cancer directly, you can still use this oil for its protective benefits and anti-inflammatory properties in the meantime!

Improves Pain, Stress, and Depression

Frankincense has been shown to help improve pain and depression among patients. In this particular study, frankincense was used in combination with lavender and bergamot essential oil mixed with a carrier oil (sweet almond oil was used for this study) and used as a massage.

Frankincense has also been reported to help lower stress levels, but studies are lacking to prove this. Regardless, frankincense may help reduce your pain and depression, which could lead to less stress on your body and immune system.

So how can you use frankincense to reap the benefits?

How to Use Frankincense Oil

Frankincense essential oil can be used both internally and externally to potentially help protect your body from cancer and inflammation.

Before using frankincense internally, talk with natural healthcare provider. Although frankincense is generally considered safe to take, not everyone will react the same way. It’s imperative that this strategy is considered safe by your doctor or herbalist before you begin this practice.

If you want to use frankincense oil internally, you can take 2-3 drops in a glass full of water. Remember, essential oils are very powerful and a little goes a long way. Make sure you have pure essential oil. Fragrance oils should never be consumed as they are toxic.

To use frankincense oil externally, add a few drops to a carrier oil such as coconut, jojoba, or almond. Use as a massage and allow your skin to take in the benefits!

Some people also use frankincense in an essential oil diffuser to breathe in the scent, which could help with cold or flu symptoms in addition to stress and anxiety.

Where to Find It

Frankincense oil can usually be found anywhere that sells essential oils. Although it comes at a higher price that some essential oils, many people consider the cost to be absolutely worth it for its wonderful health benefits.

Have you tried frankincense essential oil? What do you think about it? This intriguing scent has been used for thousands of years for its healing properties. Considering trying some frankincense oil to help you relax, potentially protect against cancer, and enjoy the scent!
