My Journey, or what I like to call, the road I finally decided to travel

Since this is my first blog for Wellness.com, (I have 2 others on another forum), I guess I should start at the beginning. I am a  40 year old single mom, raising a teenage boy, a dog and 2 cats. I work full time and I am also going to school full time. In the middle of all that, I am trying to exercise, eat right and be fit, healthy and happy. I have been overweight most of my adult life. About 2 years ago, I decided to join WW to start my weight loss journey. I managed to lose 60 pounds. I felt better, I learned a lot but still had a long road ahead of me and trying to wade through all of the stuff I was learning was a wee bit overwhelming. So, about a year ago, I decided to go back to school for a second bachelors degree. I earned my first one the traditional way almost 20 years ago. This time I decided to try the online route and selected Health and Wellness as my major. I am one term away from being done and then moving forward towards a Masters in Public Health. Also as a student, I decided to join one of the student clubs, and later became the Vice President of the Student Nutrition Assocaition at KU. I have also been acceptined invitations into 2 honor societies and am a student mentor. During my time at KU, I have taken classes on fitness, nutrition, CAMs, physical, mental and spiritual wellness, food ecology, healthcare finance, and stress management, to name a few. With this knowledge, and my newly earned degrees, I plan to enter the world of corporate and community wellness. I want to help educate and inform people who are wanting to make positive lifestyle changes when it comes to their health. I want to help educate them on how to raise healthier children. I want to bring the idea of wellness into the workplace since that is where so many adults spend so much of their time.  Weight loss has become such a million dollar industry and there are promises of miracle weight loss diets that are not what we need to be promoting and focusing on. Eating right, eating clean, being active- that is your miracle cure and I am not using a celebrity endorsement to tell you that or asking for $89.99 for that advice.. That one is free folks and there is plenty more of that if you stick around.

Best of Luck and here's to happiness and health,

Kristi W.
