We are reaching the Zero Hour in the health insurance craziness. Those of us who have insurance in the Individual Market have begun receiving letters from our carriers informing us what will happen with our policies early next year.
As an agent I have a window into what is happening and it appears the government is intent on making the young and the healthy pay more for their health insurance to subsidize the coverage for the older and unhealthy among us.
The past few days have shown me that this health insurance debacle is less about insurance and much about politics. It is about politicians deciding who gets health insurance and who does not and in my thinking it should never be this way. I have had the same doctor, J.N. Warwar, since 1970 and I have always made my health insurance decisions with the primary consideration of keeping him as the doctor for my family. I have forgone switching to less expensive policies because Dr. Warwar would not be on their Preferred Provider list. It has not happened to me yet but from what I am reading it could be possible the government could cause me to lose my doctor who has helped my family navigate through several rough health issues.
At this time I think anyone who tells you they know how this will all play out is not being honest as it seems to be changing almost daily now. But as people are being forced into policies with higher deductibles I think it would make sense to look at your auto policy and see if you have Med Pay coverage, (Look Here). This coverage would help you by giving you some money in the event you are injured in an auto accident, to offset the high deductible on your health policy. And Med Pay coverage is not that expensive in relationship to health coverage premiums.
Just today, also related to Health Exchanges where we are to go to sign up, it is discovered that your Personal Information is not very secure. (Look Here). I have been receiving information from Anthem Blue Cross that Individual off-exchange plans will be available so you may not be required to navigate through the Covered California site.
