I didn't even know that this pulmonary program existed until my pulmonologist, Dr. Connolly, ordered this for treatment for me. He told me that I was going to see that there is life after COPD. In the two years prior to starting this program, I was either in the ER or was admitted into the hospital almost every month. I would always wait until I was very bad shape before going to the hospital because I didn't know how to recognize if I needed hospital treatment or if what I was experiencing was something that I could manage at home. At one point, I tried walking from my bed to my nebulizer machine and I didn't make it. I had an asthma attack and I passed out, ultimately ending up in the hospital again. I needed someone to help me because I had a lot of fear and anxiety. My condition got so bad that I had to quit working and ended up on disability. COPD became this nagging companion that I did not want around me. When I first started coming here,I came in dragging and visibly in respiratory distress. I needed a breathing treatment as soon as I walked from the lobby to the pulmonary rehab gym. The therapists here then informed me of what the program consisted of, including the education portion, and I thought to myself "What am i really going to learn here? As far as I'm concerned, breathing is breathing. How are they going to help me?" Well, I found out pretty quickly that I had a lot to learn about COPD. I learned physical exercises, breathing exercises with the Lung Boost breathing trainer, and weight training. I also learned about recognizing COPD symptoms and how to use the COPD action plan to determine what I need to do to resolve those symptoms. Prior to this, I had no standards to go by. The staff here is wonderful and Tanya, Ron, Morgan and Lanya are very wonderful and compassionate therapists. They truly care about me and they do an exceptional job of teaching. I can easily understand and retain the information that they present during each session. I hung on every word that they said and did everything that they asked. I started to get my life back and I went from experiencing fear and anxiety all the time to feeling free! I can now go to the movies with my kids and grandkids and enjoy them without any fear or anxiety. My brother lives in Florida and the last time he saw me, he began to cry. He thought that he might be losing me soon because of the condition that I used to be in and I have done a complete turnaround. I also exercise at home and I now have a treadmill that I use frequently. I finally have that crippling companion under control! If I had to rate this program, I would have to give it an A+++. Thank you!

Very recently I had an unexpected incident that put me into the hospital. I was unable to walk and not in the best condition. But now I feel that I owe a big thank you to the entire kindred team for getting me to where I am now. I’m going home and I’m very excited and I am sure that my family is happy to have me back as well. Thank you to the physical therapy team for all that you have done. I’m able to walk with some assistance but as we know I was unable to walk before. Thank you for the motivation and allowing me to work at my own pace but I’m happy that you never gave up on me. Special thanks to Erica for being one of the greatest nurses. PJ thank you as well for being down to earth and just a good person to talk to and having such an upbeat spirit. Demoniac you as well. Dr Ferree. Who is one of my doctors is one of the most down to earth and straightforward doctors out there. Without you and your advice along I don’t know where I would be today.

Special thanks to everybody from me and my family.

Kindred's pulmonary rehab program is absolutely wonderful. I don't want it to be over but I am at the end of my visits and will be graduating today. I had known for about a year that my condition was worsening and I was told that I should look into a pulmonary rehab program. The Kindred Southwest Fort Worth location was recommended to me and I began researching pulmonary rehab programs. I read great things about this program, called my doctor and asked him to get me into that program ASAP. Tanya was wonderful and the staff here never made it feel like what we were doing was work, but it definitely was. After the classes, I felt very positive and I felt that my emphysema wasn't in control of my life. Ron was also wonderful. He is a great teacher and I learned so much about my emphysema. He has a wonderful way of explaining things and made sure that I understood everything that they taught us about managing my condition. I am really going to miss these therapists and I do not want to stop coming to Kindred but I have graduated from this program and I feel that I am ready to put everything that I learned to use. I know that I can come back if I need this service in the future and I am looking forward to working with these therapists again.

I came from Weatherford Regional to Kindred for pulmonary care as I wasn't breathing well. I came into the ICU and now have been moved to a lower level of care as they have gotten me better than what I was before. Just wanted to say that the care that I have been provided has been above what I expected.

The rooms are good and I am so delighted that I am getting stronger each and every day. What I really admire the most, is that everyone I have been in contact with has had a great smile and personality. The food is somewhat average but it is hospital food, cant expect to much. Dr. Ferree who is my primary care doctors visits me everyday and does a great job in keep me aware of my progress. Looks like I might have about one week remaining before my discharge.

One the same note, I want to let you all know that Debora who is one of my nurses goes above and beyond in the care that she has provided me. Hard to find good nurses like her.

The physical therapy team has worked with me very well. They definitely know how to make me sweat! I also didn't mind the workout. I am a total firm believer that you have to workout to get better.

Dorthy is another one of the good nurses and has a great personality. Always has a smile on her face. Thank You to everyone.

Three of the kindred staff have been steadfast and very supportive. I used to be in the healthcare field for 40 years and know that it’s a tough job. They have three staff that work there that I would like to commend for their kindness. Two of them don’t even work as a nurse but are in the housekeeping team.

Silva and Teresa have both been fantastic in keeping my room nice and tidy and most importantly germ-free. I had one small issue regarding the Lysol being sprayed which caused me to have a bad reaction however they were able to help in getting the issue resolved. I really appreciate that!

Mia 😊 kudos to you for being very supportive and knowledgeable of all the policies and procedures when it comes to looking after me. I have had many opportunities to work with many medical professionals throughout the state of Texas and at many different facilitieglenita.graham@gmail.s and this is the first one that I have found that most departments are on top of the game and policies and procedures. Also very supportive of the other departments even though it’s not always merited.

Thank you for letting me share my experience with you.

I have been coming to Kindred’s pulmonary rehab for three months now. Before starting here, my condition was very grim. I would stay in bed all the time and I didn’t feel like every doing anything. There were feelings of hopelessness and uselessness and there was no quality of life. I also felt like I was becoming a burden on my family. Then one day during a visit to my pulmonologist, he recommended for me to go to Kindred’s pulmonary rehab. He told me that I was in a severe stage of COPD and that I should start attending this program at Kindred to try to improve my condition. He sent the order to the hospital and I was contacted by the pulmonary rehab staff. I made an appointment for an evaluation and at that time I was only able to walk 410 feet before becoming very short of breath. I started attending three times a week and it was very hard at first and I sometimes wanted to give up. If it wasn’t for their staff encouraging me and giving me hope, I probably would’ve quit. A few weeks into my rehab, I started feeling much better about myself. Tanya just kept telling me”” You can do this!” and kept me going. I am so grateful for the encouragement that I received and this program has made a huge difference in my life and in that of my family. Tonya, Ron, Marty, Ken, Morgan and Alfred are very encouraging, they make it fun and they really do care about their patients. I am now able to walk twice as far as I did when I started without becoming very short of breath. I would definitely recommend this program to anybody who needs this type of help. I know that the future now looks much brighter for me! I would also suggest that anybody who is in the condition I was in not give up because this program and their staff have given me new hope. I’ve also lost 20 pounds since I started coming here with the exercises and with the things that I learned about eating healthier. It’s been a complete lifestyle change for me and my family has also joined me in eating healthier and dieting. I could not have done this without the people here at Kindred.

Dr. Mott and Laura from Weatherford Regional we're the ones that admitted me to Kindred. It's a little far from where I stay but I didn't have much choice. Heard a lot of good news from the doctor about Kindred. Didn't really know what to expect from the hospital but all I knew was I needed additional therapy. What I have experience from the pulmonary program has been exceptional. Eric from the therapy department worked with me on my exercises and helping me to build my endurance and muscle strength. Also Ron a really cool guy who is the instructor for the pulmonary program taught me a lot of things that I didn't know before. Which was helpful because now I'm not only educated but I'm also able to do the things that I didn't do before. After my discharge, I'll be receiving additional therapy in Weatherford and looking forward to it.

But I have some really great nurses who work with me that include Lawanda, Carrie and Romeo. Lawanda has been terrific. She has a very pleasant and polite demeanor while the care has been very good. One of the nicest nurse I have met in quite some time. Carrie and Romeo also fit into that same politeness category. Actually the whole nursing staff has been exceptional.

I did have some problems with the food some items didn't come. For example one day I have tater tot's but no hamburger. They also forgot to bring the condiments. But they were able to take care of it. That would be the only suggestion for improvement that I would recommend.

I would have no problem to recommend anybody to come to Kindred for therapy. I hope my experience that I am sharing with you helps in your decision.

My five star goes to two special people that work at kindred. These two individuals go out of their way to try to make me feel as comfortable as possible. However being in a hospital environment is not always the best feeling as it can get lonely from time to time. One of the positive things about is I have my sister who stays with me. I'm currently in the hospital right now and hoping for a speedy recovery.

These two individuals are Nicole and Temla. Both of them have been very supportive while I'm in the hospital. The food at the hospital is not so bad as well as it keeps me moving towards my goal of being healed. But thank you Nicole and Telma for being there.
