It was timely and Dr. Mackoul and staff were very respectful, friendly and clear about what the procedure would entail.They made me feel completely at ease about what I was having done and fully explained any and all effects of the procedure.

Dr. MacKoul is the BEST - hands down. Dealing with major medical issues is stressful, but one thing I didn't have to worry about was the level of care I was receiving. Unlike some surgeons, Dr. MacKoul discussed with me what I wanted & how we could achieve that goal while maintaining my health. He was patient, answered my questions thoroughly & worked with me and my family - he was an answer to prayers! I did wait a little bit, but when a doctor actually sits down with you and answers questions, there are bound to be tie-ups. Bottom line, it's worth the wait.

I had had a number of procedures done to try and alleviate heavy bleeding and big fibroids that made my cycles very uncomfortable. These worked for about 6 years (I'm 52). About 12 months ago I began experiencing the same symptoms all over again, except that now I was bleeding every day and this continued for about 1 year (I figured I was going through the change but it never stopped so better to figure out what's going on before the problem gets more serious). My GYN referred me to Dr. Mackoul for possible hysterectomy. This was done by Dr. Mackoul using this advanced dual port laparoscopy. I also had everything else removed at the same time (there was an ovarian cyst - I've had that for many years). The final diagnosis was adenomyosis (which is what was suspected as my problem), and big fibroids. Wow the recovery time was fast. I was home the same day, up and about (with no strenuous activities) the next day. A bit bloated for about 7 days (just as was expected and as he described) but let me tell you there was no pain or discomfort at all. Gee I've felt bloated for the last 12+ months, nothing different there. After 10 days I must say I haven't felt this good in 20 years. I am so thankful that I was referred to this very skilled surgeon. There's no reason for anyone to experience those 6-8 week recovery times any longer from hysterectomy. This advanced laparoscopy surgical technique (mine was dual port) practiced by Dr. MacKoul will change the way these procedures are handled going forward. Thank you for making this experience quick and easy with fast recovery time for me. I feel great and it's all because of your skill and experience doing this procedure. Please continue your good work improving the health of women all around the metro DC area and beyond. Please also continue sharing these ground-breaking techniques with other surgeons. This is how it should be done.

I am forever thankful for Dr. MacKoul! I went in for a fibroid. He discovered a cancerous cyst. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at 37 (no symptoms, history, etc.) If it wasn't for his expertise I'm sure this disease would've killed me. Instead, I was diagnosed very early & have an excellent prognosis. The doctor was patient, discussed my issue, answered my MANY questions & was generally amazing. You will wait, but that's because he's tops in his field and is EXCELLENT at what he does. He's who you want operating on you, your daughter, mother, sister, etc. - do not look any further!

If you're looking for a new OBGYN I recommend you go here. I was explained every possible side effect before being prescribed medication, and was fully informed about both the positive and negative outcomes, and the risks of procedures. They were extremely informative. They made sure every single question I had was answered, and are always available if I think of any more questions I want answered. I was extremely satisfied with the level of care and professionalism.
