Surprising Stress Relief Within Your Own Home

There are a lot of ways to relieve stress. Some resort to drugs, others to alternative remedies while others see a counselor for help. Although some of these remedies are helpful in their own way, you may want to look at the remedies available in your own kitchen before spending your money on other options. Many common items can be used as home remedies for stress and its negative effects. The following are some common household stress solutions.

Garlic - Garlic is by far one of the most loved natural remedies. With everything that it can do it comes as no surprise this is on the list. It assists with stress reduction because it contains something called sulfur allicin which produces hydrogen sulfide in the body which creates a general calming effect. So try popping a few extra cloves of garlic into your dish to help your stress levels.

Celery - The phytonutrients called phthalides found in celery have long been proven to play a significant role in reducing the production of stress hormones called catecholamines and calming the nervous system. This green vegetable is also rich in stress-fighting components like potassium, vitamins C, B 1 and E. So during stressful times munch on raw celery or blend an entire celery plant (roots, stalks and leaves) with a good amount of water and drink up.

Tea - Drinking tea has long been associated with stress relief, and many people all over the world regularly drink tea to help them relax after facing the stresses of everyday life. Although different types of teas have been used for the purpose of relaxation, recent studies have shown that the most effective variety is the black tea. Further studies are still being done to expose which specific components in the black tea can be attributed to its relaxing effect.

Hot bath - This is not advice to drink your bathwater! Rather a hot bath can be both relaxing and rejuvenating to the mind and body. It is a cheap, simple way to relieve stress, anxiety, and tired muscles. To even add more benefits to your warm bath, you can infuse your water with other helpful components like calming herbal bath blends and relaxing epsom salts. Soft music and candlelight is always a nice touch, too.

Essential oils - Like tea, the use of essential oils to bring about relaxation has long been practiced. Today, this traditional healing method is most commonly known as aromatherapy. For stress, the best essential oils to use are lavender, peppermint, basil, bergamot, chamomile, frankincense, jasmine and clary sage. You can use these oils for massage, bathing, simmering or inhalation. Just a few drops of these natural wonders can bring about calmness within your system.

Stress has become so rampant these days that it is almost impossible to finish a day without experiencing it. The fast-paced society that we are living in has caused a lot of people to become constantly exposed to stress and although stress at certain levels is natural and harmless, being in a constant state of stress can be damaging to your health. There are various ways to keep stress at bay but it is always best to start with natural remedies.
