I am going to start by mentioning that my sciatica is shooting down my left leg at the moment! Unfortunately, I skipped the two poses that I practice daily to prevent this from happening this week. My specialization is Yoga for back pain. For good reason. I have been suffering from severe lower back pain since my teenage years. However, a slow transformation has happened since then...the chronic low back pain, that causes my sciatic nerve to go into very painful spasms, has significantly dissipated over the years.
Since the beginning of my Yoga practice, I have been adamantly studying anatomy of Yoga and exactly what specific movements and postures release different parts of the spine. I have designed several sequences, as well as mindfulness techniques in certain postures to open the back and hips. When done regularly, back pain can be minimized, or even thwarted completely.
My life is now almost completely pain free...however today is a wonderful reminder that Yoga is a discipline!
My Yoga practice began at age 15, when I was overweight and already suffering from severe back pain. I was already vegetarian and studying Herbalism, so I knew Yoga was the logical next step. And as is the case for sooo many others, it gradually transformed my life!
