Treatment for Thick Toenails

Many people have a problem with thick toenails, even fingernails. Thick nails are caused by either trauma, physical or chemical, or a fungus.

As a podiatrist, I have treated thousands of patients with this problem.

Currently the options to take care of these thick nails is the following:

1. Surgery to remove the nail, either permanently or temporarily
2. Oral medications such as lamisil which requires a blood test and if you don't have insurance, may cost up to $900 for 12 week dose
3. Topicals, such as ThinNail. The side effects are skin irritation and is not recommended for diabetics.
