Posttraumatic Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia (FM) has a long reputation for being a controversial diagnosis. Some health care providers (HCPs) feel FM is a legitimate condition that warrants treatment and research while others feel it's a "garbage can diagnosis" that HCPs throw patients into when they're not sure what diagnostic label to use for a patient's condition. Regardless of the personal beliefs of individual HCPs, there have been two general classifications of FM - primary and secon...(continued)

Neck Pain - Non-Surgical Treatment Options

There are many treatment options for those suffering from neck pain. There is conventional medical care where the family doctor will usually prescribe a muscle relaxant, anti-inflammatory, and/or pain killer to help patients through episodes of acute neck pain. However, many patients with neck pain have been through the process of treatments associated with medications and simply cannot tolerate the adverse side effects of stomach pain common with anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen...(continued)

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) - "Fact Sheet"

What is it? Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) occurs when a nerve on the palm side of the wrist is pinched. It is named after the area of the wrist from where the symptoms occur. The Carpal Tunnel is basically a horseshoe shape made from 8 small carpal bones and the ends of the horseshoe are connected with a ligament thus completing the "tunnel."

Neck Pain, Headache and the Jaw Joint

Neck pain and headaches can be very disabling and can significantly alter a person's normal pattern of living. Simple things like reading the newspaper, cooking, driving a car, and/or looking down when feeding a baby, can become almost intolerable. Canceling plans for the day or saying "no" to vacations can be very disheartening and often occurs because of severe neck pain and/or headache making these activities simply, "no fun." The cause ...(continued)

CTS - Prompt Treatment Is Best!

Many people suffer from CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) and unfortunately, often ignore the initial symptoms of numbness or tingling in the hand(s). After My Car Accident, Why Do I Hurt So Much?

There are many different reasons why injuries sustained in car crashes result in chronic or long term pain. First, there are several types of tissues in the neck that can give rise to pain. The most intense pain comes from the tissues with the greatest density of nerve fibers, such as the joint capsules and the ligaments holding the bones of the neck together. There ar...(continued)

Fibromyalgia (FM) and Central Nervous System Problems

Do you hurt all over, frequently feel exhausted, can't seem to ever feel "rested" after a night's sleep, don't respond to any of the recommended medications from your family physician and no test seems to uncover anything specific? If this sounds like you, it is possible that you are suffering from fibromyalgia (FM). FM is a chronic/long term condition including generalized pain in the muscles and joints, usually on both sides of the body abo...(continued)

What Do Consumers Say Works Best?

We know that many people, in fact about 80%, hurt their back at some point in life. In a recent survey by Consumer Reports (CR) (see the May 2009 issue), over 14,000 subscribers had low back pain (LBP) but no surgery to treat it in 2008. More than half reported severe daily activity limitations for at least one week and 88% reported their LBP recurred throughout the year.

Many indicated their sleep, sex life, and weight management all suffered as a result of LBP.
