Fifty... It's More Than A Number... It's An Achievement!

I never thought I'd be doing what I'm doing today. I also never thought I'd
need before and after pictures of myself either. I'm 50 years old today.

The picture to the right is of me in 1996. I was accepting an award for my
company. While you can't really see my body under the dark suit, I was well over
300 pounds in this picture. It was two short years later that I was diagnosed
with my heart problem along with a myriad of other illnesses that was supposed
to derail my life and make me a pharmaceutical company's dream.

I took a different route.

The pictures below were taken this morning after I trained at the gym. I told
two people that it was my birthday today. Both guessed I was in my 40's. When I
said I was 50 today, they were both astounded.

I feel great at 50 and will feel even better at 60 I'm sure. Age has no bearing
on life if you continue to get stronger and increase your health quotient as you
age.

I wanted to share these pictures with you. Many may not know my whole story. My journey back from illness and disrepair is nothing short of amazing. Yet its not unlike so many other's stories of facing the challenges of a poor lifestyle with
determination and spirit. Fighting the good fight.

I'm proud to be 50 and feel and look the way I do. All I want is to spread the
good word of fitness, proper nutrition and longevity that has changed my life.

The greatest gift I have is my audience. You are the best gift I can have for
this birthday. Thank you for being here to witness all of this. Thank you from
the bottom of my healthy heart.

Carl

armymom you flatter me. Anyone can do it. I've realized that the single most insidious factor that derails most of us is unrealistic expectations. As you can see I'm not holding a newspaper next to me attempting to show some short period of time. The transformation was a byproduct of the health and longevity I sought and continue to seek. The truth is that its simpler than we think. We just have to pick a path and stay the course long enough to see results. If your focus is health and longevity the journey is fun and you're not solely fixated on pounds and image. Short term goals like being able to walk faster or lift more become the gratification that carries us along and before you know it you have a body that represents your lifestyle. I'm sure I'll see you on the path one day. Stay the course and make that your goal - not weight loss. Carl
