The hearing aid process

Prior to fitting a hearing aid, it is incredibly important to have an accurate hearing exam by an Audiologist. Also, ensure that the testing equipment is relatively new. It makes a difference. Don't be shy and ask!

The Audiologist should be very thorough and review the test with you and recommend options. These options may be to review the test with your primary physician, to see an ENT physician for a second opinion or seek a hearing aid.

If you are a candidate for a hearing aid, the Audiologist will review their features and your lifestyle to find a good match.
When the hearing aid is fitted, be prepared to feel different and certainly hear differently. Many of my patients report hearing the water running, the heater making noises and even hearing their turn signal in their car!
This is all normal! Follow up and careful instruction and counseling is essential for a positive experience.
