Yoga practice - goal or way

Does yoga effect the life of a person ?
Is the effectiveness of yoga good for the lungs and internal organs like not smoking or not breathing air pollution?
As a way yoga achieves goals of wellness for us which we have problem achieving ourselves..
Especially mental issues most people have of dealing with the uncomfortable stream of life that makes us all complain and be unsatisfied with what we have.
When we choose to practice yoga and choose to "suffer" a little we subconsciously realize that we choose our way in life. Complaining suddenly doesn't seem relevant..
