Skincare Tips to Prepare You for Spring and Summer

When the weather starts to warm up, your skin might feel dry or breakout. You don’t have to be stuck with such symptoms throughout the summer months, however. Here is how to prevent and deal with issues so you can have beautiful skin.

Skip the Sun Session

Avoid tanning as it is too harsh on skin and remember to apply sunscreen to your skin every few hours if you are outside. This prevents sun damage from occurring, such as in the form of discoloration. If you want bronze skin, use self-tanning products or bronzers to achieve a sun-kissed yet safe appearance.

If sun damage has already occurred in the form of discoloration, alpha hydroxy peels can be a good investment because they lighten skin. However, bear in mind they make your skin even more vulnerable to the sun so you’ll have to protect it much more by applying sunscreen religiously.

Beat Dullness

If your skin is dry it has the tendency to become dull. Watch what you eat and cleanse your skin properly for greater defense against dullness!

  • Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water and choosing water-rich foods so that you nourish your skin from the inside. Great picks include foods like watermelon, berries, leafy greens, and cantaloupe which is packed with antioxidants to make your skin radiant.
  • Pay closer attention to how you cleanse your skin. Apply your cleanser to damp skin and rub it in upwards circular motions. Work deeply into the pores to clean out makeup, bacteria and sweat. Doing this alone will increase the healthy appearance of your skin.

Blemish SOS

When the weather heats up, your skin can become more prone to suffering from irritation in the form of pimples. This is due to the skin’s extra oil production and sweat.

  • Switch to a cleanser that contains salicylic acid, a powerful ingredient to tackle blemishes.
  • Avoid using any products that contain oil as this will just aggravate the issue.
  • Start using a lighter moisturizer on your face that won’t be too thick for skin, preventing the overproduction of your skin’s oils which can clog your pores and lead to breakouts.
  • When taking your daily shower, skip the hot water and opt for a cool spray instead. This is especially vital after a day of sweating as it keeps the pores closed, lowering your risk of an acne breakout.

Scrub it!

Get rid of dry skin cells that have accumulated on the surface of your skin during winter by exfoliating regularly. However, do so before you step into the shower. Then, after you have washed, finish off with a luxurious body cream to lock in moisture and give your skin a silky finish. Exfoliate with marine elements such as seaweed to draw impurities from the skin. This also makes your skin and mood feel refreshed!

Summer-Proof Your Makeup

Don’t let makeup smudges ruin your skin’s appearance.

  • Invest in waterproof makeup, such as mascara, to prevent dreaded smudges from happening throughout the course of the day.
  • Use a liquid eyeliner instead of a pencil as this will be longer-lasting.
  • Apply primer to your skin before applying foundation. This helps to warm up your skin, acclimating it to the heat so that your makeup won’t budge when the sun strikes it.
  • When using color on your lips, choose a lip stain instead of gloss or lipstick because it has greater staying power and you won’t have to touch it up throughout the day.

Sign up for a Gym Session

It’s not just what you eat and apply to your face that counts, but also your daily activity. If you want to get that gorgeous summer body, start now! Daily exercise will boost your fitness levels and tone you up, but it’s also wonderful for your skin. Sweat helps your body rid itself of toxins and dirt that accumulate in your pores. Added to this, it boosts circulation so that more nutrients can reach your skin’s surface.

As the weather warms up, let your skin come out to play with a healthier and brighter complexion.
