Top 10 Tips for Mommies – Plan Your Mommy Makeover

At Kay Plastic Surgery we understand that it can be overwhelming to start planning a Mommy Makeover, so we compiled a list of tips to get you started. We also suggest you research the procedures involved in a Mommy Makeover and ask questions during your consultation.

A Mom’s to-do list

  1. Know what you would like to change the most. Your body undergoes a lot of changes during pregnancy and you should focus only on the parts you would want to see changed the most. Most commonly, women are concerned with their tummy and breasts, so many Mommy Makeovers will include a tummy tuck paired with a breast augmentation and/or breast lift. Once you know what you want, your plastic surgeon will be able to determine the best treatments for you.
  2. Research the procedures you’re interested in. Do your homework by researching various plastic surgery websites, talk with other patients to see how their experience was, and ask your plastic surgeon any questions you may have regarding the procedures you want in your Mommy Makeover. It’s important to know the benefits as well as the risks associated with your procedures. The more you learn about each procedure, the more comfortable you will be with your choices.
  3. Have realistic expectations. With the constant bombardment of touched-up, airbrushed images and pictures of movie stars who have gone under the knife, it is natural to think plastic surgery will change everything. You can change your appearance and self-confidence, but it doesn’t happen overnight. It is important that you understand the limitations of plastic surgery to be fully satisfied and happy with your results.
  4. Research your plastic surgeon. You will be surprised to know any licensed physician could offer plastic surgery procedures even in the absence of formal training in the various procedures. Research board certified plastic surgeons by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, with training and ample experience in the procedures you have chosen.
  5. Talk with your loved ones. It can be difficult to tell your spouse and children that you want to alter your appearance. Let them know how the surgery will transform you for the better and boost your confidence. You may want to invite your spouse or significant other to join you during your consultation. This helps relieve anxiety about a planned procedure.
  6. Schedule a consultation. Set up an appointment to meet with your plastic surgeon face-to-face. This is your time to ask any questions you have about the various procedures and to learn as much as you possibly can, so you know what to expect. Asking the right questions will ensure you’re fully prepared for your procedure.
  7. If required, set another second consultation. If you have even a small amount of doubt, schedule another consultation with a different plastic surgeon. It is important to not only focus on the surgeon’s credentials, training, and experience, but also on bedside manner and their personality. Do not give up on your search until you have found the perfect plastic surgeon for your procedure. Don’t hesitate to schedule a second appointment until all of your concerns have been addressed.
  8. Check the fees. Once you have decided on the procedures and the plastic surgeon, ask the office for a quote on the fees. See if this will fit your budget or ask about any payment options that may be offered.
  9. Plan your surgery. When it’s time to schedule your procedure, look for a span of time where you can be away from work during your recovery. Plan on getting a loved one or close friend to help you during your stay at home. It is essential you have that time off to recuperate following your surgery.
  10. Prepare for your surgery. You will feel calm and prepared for your procedure if you are able to get everything in order in the days leading up to your surgery. The more items you check off your list before your procedure, the better your recovery will be. Ensure your refrigerator is fully stocked, your prescriptions are filled, and your home is set up to be a comfortable place for your recovery.
