How do facilities like this remain in business???!!! This establishment should be shut down!!!
Due to my mother's restrictive insurance, she was admitted to Avante directly from Boca Community Hospital for respiratory therapy. I was there as she was admitted, and in a short time I observed horrid things... First they covered my mother with a nasty duvet cover ( probably never laundered) then I noticed a pair of used discarded surgical gloves just thrown upon the dresser in her room. There were also dirty bed linens just rumpled up and thrown in a corner of the room. I wasn't happy with the close proximity of her bed to the window A/C (about ½ a foot), so I asked them if there was another bed in another room available. They showed me my choices of two rooms and both were filthy. There was a discarded catheter amongst other medical waste and debris on the floor. I was literally kicking debris out of my way!!! I saw two cockroaches in the main hallway, there were no medical waist trash receptacles in sight, and the waist paper baskets provided did not have liners. I asked for a couple of chairs for my family and they brought in rusty folding chairs. Not only is this place filthy, there were no Registered nurses on staff and the patients are only attended to once every 3 hours (hopefully). My mother was admitted in very frail condition and was not seen by a doctor in the two days she was there.
Its like the patents were thrown in storage waiting to pass on...Thankfully we were able to resolve the insurance issues and had my mother transferred to a much better facility.
