Saw this doctor with a broken bone and was in a lot of pain. Doctor wanted to refer me to a trauma doctor but the staff refused to send in the referral to the other doctor until dictation was transferred to my record. Which was going to take "two days". When a poorly managed doctor's office staff gets bogged down by rules and procedures, the patient is left without care or pain management. The trauma doctor never received my records, and thus I could not make an appointment - which signifies failure of Dr Sumida's staff to do their jobs at all. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone.

I am disappointed to say that Dr. Sumita's staff would not make an appointment for me to see him to have an ingrown toe nail removed due to the fact that the last doctor who cut out an ingrown nail for me would not send Dr. Sumita's office my record. According to Dr. Sumita's staff, he could not see me for an ingrown nail until he was able to "review" my patient record. After telling his staff I had tried repeatedly to obtain my medical record they said they would call my last doctor. Dr. Sumita's office tried to call the previous doctor's office for two days and could not even get an answer. Still Dr. Sumita's staff refused to make an appointment for me to see him. Neither of us was able to retrieve my previous medical record, but that did not change the fact that I was in pain. It would be nice if doctors and staff would rely on common sense and a sense of compassion when deciding who can get an appointment. I guess it would be safer to let the problem persist until my medical record arrived and risk blood poisoning. As a teacher, I am on my feet all day and needed relief. Fortunately, Dr. Miller of Chattanooga was able to see me almost immediately for an ingrown nail without my medical record.
