The waiting room here is spacious. I never feel like I have to sit too close to someone or that it is overcrowded. They were one of the kindest, most caring staff I've ever dealt with. It didn't matter how many times I called with a question or concern, they were always happy to help me. They're really great about taking their time with me, and they don't mind answering my questions. I've never felt like an annoyance to them no matter how many questions I have. They made sure that their qualifications were obvious. I was confident that I was under the care of a professional. Just as a side note, I was very impressed with how conveniently located this business was and how close it was to other shopping centers. It was so easy to find, I didn't have any trouble at all.

On Friday, January 1, 2010 (New Year's Day!) I was working on a project at my home. I was cutting lumber with a circular saw and somehow the blade had a horribe encounter with my left ring finger. It took off the entire nail and everything else down to the bone from the knuckle out and cut off the tip of that finger. At the emergency room I was referred to Dr. Smith and saw him the following Monday. He addressed my problem with extreme professionalism and clearly explained my options. He scheduled me for surgery 2 days later.
The surgery went as planned. I thought I'd be in a lot of pain and discomfort for at least 2 or 3 weeks, but to my surprise I never felt compelled to take ANY pain medication after I was released from recovery. There was a little discomfort the next morning for a few hours, but never enough to warrant pain medication.
It's now Monday, January 18, eighteen days since I cut the finger almost off. I went in for my 2nd physical therapy session this morning (although I felt like I didn't need it) and they decided to cancel my next session because the healing was so advanced. I have no pain what-so-ever, can move the finger almost to full potential and have no further pain in my wrist where Dr. Smith took a huge section of skin and muscle to reconstruct the finger. There are still stitches in the finger and wrist, but the finger stitches are the type that dissolve on their own and most of those are gone. The wrist stitches will be removed by Dr. Smith next Tuesday although I think they could have been removed today.
I spoke with a friend of mine whose husband is a respected, long-time anestheiologist in the area when I was referred to Dr. Smith. She told me Dr. Smith did extensive surgery including pins and reconstructive surgery for their daughter a few years ago after a tragic accident, and that they considered him one of the best in country!
I would recommend Dr. Smith extremely highly to anyone who has any problems what-so-ever with an extremity.
Thanks to this talented Dr., what started out as a "nightmare New Year" turned into a future of hope and thankfulness.
