It started out with the nurse concocting something that looked like pink mashed potatoes. She filled up a mold with it and stuck it in the roof of my mouth. Because I gag easily, this was not fun. I gagged and tried to throw up about 10 times. Finally it hardened enough that she could take it out. By then I was exhausted, sick at my stomach, had a headache, and was covered with pink goo. She returned after a while and had me put the finished product (clear, smaller) in my mouth. It nearly made me sick again.

The surgery itself wasn’t as bad except that the doctor was a jerk and my jaw hurt so badly. He used profanity during the surgery which was so unprofessional. He seemed really nice when I met him the first time. They used stuff to pre-numb me so that I didn’t feel much of the needles, cutting, or sewing. What hurt so badly was my JAW trying to stay open wide. The doctor kept fussing at me because apparently I was slightly turning my head away from him w/out realizing it and he fussed every time he told me to move it back. He also kept blaming my nervousness/fast pulse saying that I was making it worse and it would make the anesthetic wear off faster. Just what I needed when I was already miserable. No compassion at all.

Once it was over they had me put the plastic shield in place. Yep – gagged and threw up. The nurse tried to get the doctor to return but he never would. She finally got a different doctor to come in and evaluate things.

I was referred here by a dentist that my coworkers trust. I have dental implants and they were experiencing some swelling. Dr van Kesteren, after examining, told me if i didn't do anything my implants would fall out. He recommended "laser treatment" and did not suggest any other alternative. I was brought into a nice office after and was told by the AA, Jenny, without a doubt that most of the $1350 procedure would be covered by my insurance and I would only have to pay around $250. Also, the $1350 would cover two procedures but "they were only charging me for one" (if something cost $1350 you're not going to give a second one away for free). I had the procedure done and about a week before my second "treatment" I realized that my gums had receded a good amount in the area where the laser treatment was done. Almost to the point where you could see the screws. The next day I got a bill from my insurance company stating that my insurance didn't cover this procedure and I was stuck with the rest of the bill. I actually expected to have to pay about $50-$100 more because dental estimates are rarely accurate but I wasn't expecting to have to pay $1100. I went in for my second procedure and brought up my significant gum loss and the assistant said "she never saw that before" but Dr Van Kesteren said it looked good but they didn't need to do a second treatment. Even though I was charged for two treatments. I received one and it caused significant gum loss, enough to alarm a staff member. They wouldn't work with me on the amount owed and blamed the insurance company instead of taking ownership and admitting that they should have told me to double check with my insurance to see if it was covered. My advice.... If they suggest a procedure, scrutinize whether it is the best, most cost effective treatment or if they're just trying to line their pockets. Also, if they tell you a procedure is covered do NOT trust them. Do your own research or you will regret it.
