Something has gone wrong on every visit to this office. On my first visit, the equipment they used for X-rays was too large for my mouth causing me to gag. They were rude to me about having a "sensitive gag reflex" and announced this to everyone in the office. When I returned for a filling, the doctor struggled to properly band the tooth being filled, needing at least a half dozen tries to do it -- with wooden wedges driven between my tooth and gum. The hour appointment took nearly three hours because of the trial-and-error process they used. Oh, and the very hot lamp overhead also fell on me while I was sitting in the chair.

Their billing is also consistently inaccurate. Despite an agreement with my insurance provider (Delta Dental of MO) to not charge over the contractual amount, they ask for payment up front each time (rather than even submitting it to insurance) which I have to decline. Then after insurance pays the contracted amount, their billing provider sends me a bill for the remainder -- the portion over the insurance provider's contractual amount! My insurance company says they are not allowed to do this, but they persist.

This office is very convenient and close to my home, but I will be driving a half hour across town to a more professional and competent office at my wife's recommendation from now on.

I was worried that I was going to be in a lot of pain during my procedure, but they gave me a local anesthetic that took the pain away. I have a real fear of dental work. This was not small procedure, it was a root canal. I was very comfortable the whole time. They also gave me addition support for nervousness and fear with gas prior to the procedure. They were so kind and attentive to me. I didn't have to worry about them arguing with me, or contradicting what I had to say, which has been a problem for me at other places. They were so nice and professional and even called me to remind me about my upcoming appointment. Let me just say that this business is in one of the safest areas around and you will be pleasantly surprised at how lovely the surroundings are. I've never seen a dental office that cares about their patients more than they do. They've never pressured me to get dental procedures I don't need, and they always have my best interest in mind. If you have a fear of dentist I would seriously seek care with this office. They understand and never rush the procedure or make light of your apprehensions. The entire staff is kind and understanding.

NEVER GO TO VANDERVEEN DENTAL CENTER! Absolute worst experience with a practitioner of any kind, EVER. They told me the wrong time for my appointment, so when I showed up early (for the time I was told), they told me the dentist had left for the day and I would have to reschedule. Rescheduled for the next day, called ahead to say running a few minutes behind. Showed up 10 minutes late. They didn't get the message, told me they didn't know if the dentist would be able to see me. He lectured me for ten minutes about how valuable his time was, while a nurse repeatedly about how she didn't get the appointment times mixed up despite telling me otherwise the day before. Finally got in the chair, and the dentist worked on me for ten minutes and then LEFT THE BUILDING. I still had another hour slotted for my appointment, and more work to be done. When I asked the nurse if he would be back to finish the job, she told me "guess not".
NEVER GO HERE. I will be filing complaints with ADA, BBB, and my insurance carrier. This kind of treatment is inexcusable.
