They answered most of my questions but I could have used more information. I did not know what questions I would have before surgery. I believe that they should know through their experiences with post-op patients what will be experienced by the patient and they should address concerns before surgery to make the patient as comfortable and knowledeable as possible. The "what to expect" section received at the Surgical Center consisted of only 2 items.

Their staff was friendly enough, but they didn't go out of their way to help me. The receptionist laughed when I was struggling with the crutches and said, "Most people get used to them by the time they don't need them anymore." If they know that, then pre-surgery practice/training for using crutches is important, but it is ignored and not addressed. When I told the doctor I was having difficulty with the crutches and that I fell, she simply handed me a brochure on a "roll-a-bout" walker. Options should be given to prevent patient post-op stress and injury, not after issues occur.

Actual time given to me by the doctor was minimal. With 3 appointments (initial, pre-surgery, post-op) contact with the doctor was less then 10 minutes total (Yes, we can fix it; verified which foot; looked at incisions, applied salve, and left the room each time without my realizing the appt was over).
The surgical procedure is routine for them but not for the patient. They need to anticipate patients' needs and concerns even before they have them. They give as little information as possible as to what is going to happen and what the patient is going to experience. I feel they do not put patient care first.
