Luis Fandos, MD

Dr. Luis Fandos was born in Argentina and followed in the footsteps of his father, uncle and cousin to become a medical doctor. He is bilingual (English and Spanish) and graduated from the Medical School of the University of Rosario.

While in his residency in Anesthesia and Critical Care at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, Dr. Fandos developed a great interest in the specialty of pain management. He obtained a Fellowship in Interventional Pain Management at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt of Columbia University where he learned the most advanced treatment techniques in the field.

Following his Fellowship, Dr. Fandos received additional sub-specialty training at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. During this time, he furthered his expertise in complex pain management conditions. Dr. Fandos’ training has been guided by some of the world’s top medical authorities in his areas of specialty.

Upon his return to Argentina, Dr. Fandos became the Division Chief for Pain Management at the Mater Dei Hospital in Buenos Aries and was an Associate Professor at Foundation Dolor. In 2002, he returned to the United States and co-founded with Dr. Craig Shalmi the New York Pain Consultants which now has three locations on Long Island.

Additionally, Dr. Fandos is on staff with the Division of Pain Management at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, West Islip, New York. He teaches pain management to medical residents from both Samaritan Hospital and the Stony Brook University Medical Center Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He also serves as the Director of the Division of Pain Management at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, which is a member of the North Shore-LIJ system.


Through several research projects, Dr. Fandos is creating data on new techniques that can potentially provide patients with prolonged sustained relief of pain and an improved quality of life. The research is directed at different conditions that cause pain.

He is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and American Board of Pain Medicine. Dr. Fandos is a member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, American Society of Pain Medicine, International Association for the Study of Pain, North American Neuromodulation Society and the World Pain Institute.
