Troy Welty is the therapist I saw here. First of all this is a Diagnostic and Counseling center for children 0-6 and older yet there are no children's books or toys in the waiting room.
Then when I go into Troy's office there again are no toys or books for children. This man's office was littered with paperwork, personal effects all over his desk, table and the couch. Including his lunch and his attaché case a clipboard and his cowboy hat. My 2-year-old is obviously getting into everything that this man has strewn about his office as there's nothing for him to do. Troy, who apparently is versed in autistic children, keeps yelling my son's name which is surprising to me because it's pretty well-known that autistic toddlers rarely respond to their name. Or take instructions. Or give high-fives. These are all things Troy is requesting of my toddler even though we spoke at length before this initial appointment and he's aware my son is autistic. I'm unable to even sit down to discuss my son's case with Mr.Welty as I'm busy chasing my toddler and cleaning up Mr. Welty's belongings that are all over the place so my toddler doesn't get into them. The trashcan was overflowing with empty frozen lunches and garbage. The breaking point for me was when my son picked up Troy's cowboy hat which was sitting on the couch and tried to put it on. Mr. Welty flew up out of his chair and yelled no multiple times at my son and then with obvious irritation told me that I would need to hold my son for the rest of the appointment. Whereupon I asked him how he expected to have parents bring in their toddlers with nothing provided for their comfort so that parents could get through the appointment. I had asked him when booking the appointment if I should bring my child and he told my yes. Then why are we in a situation where my child is considered a nuisance? This is supposed to be an environment where parents and children are comfortable so that they receive the therapy and help that they need.
He was unapologetic, lacked warmth and compassion and frankly I'm shocked this man is working with children and/or adolescents.
I have 4 children and have been to countless doctors, specialists, psychologists and psychiatrists offices for my children over the years and I have never omething likthis and I've never had to walk out in the middle of an appointment. This man should not be working with children and the office itself lacks any sort of environment that would be reassuring that you've brought your children to the right place.
You'll get more of a nurturing environment for your children at a title office or the UPS store where there's at least a box of blocks.
