Even though there were times I felt weak, scared at times, and like a big baby, I always felt safe and supported. The birth center and staff far exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend this place for anyone desiring a natural child birth.

I just had my first prenatal appointment and honestly I'm not sure if I'm going back. I had a really bad impression. When I arrived the secretary sort of led me to believe she was the midwife at first - she just kind of talked to me like she was a provider and explained how women weigh and check their own pee using the pronoun "we need to know . . . tell us if . . . etc etc" I just really thought she was at least an RN. This concerned me a bit because she was dressed very unprofessionally - but I thought "well who knows maybe she was up all night delivering a baby and didn't have time to shower." Later I deduced that she was the secretary but it would have been nice if she would have just introduced herself.

I had been to this pracitice once before for a pap smear a year ago and saw Cherie - I saw her again for this appointment and really like her/connected with her both times. She was wonderful - no complaints toward her. What concerned me was that I waited 45 minutes for my appointment and there were two other women there, both teachers, who complained that they were going to be late going back to work because they had been waiting for so long for their appointments. It also concerned me that they couldn't find a record of my pap smear from a year ago. I got the impression from Cherie that this sort of thing happened a lot and that the secretary would eventually find it but it was unsettling for me that they seemed so disorganized.

When my appointment was over I was told abruptly that I owed $300. I was shocked. Weren't they going to bill my insurance first? No they said all patients paid this upfront. I called my husband and he was insistent that they at least figure out what my out of pocket would be. They called the insurance company and came back with at quote for the entire prenantal care - which was of course $300 was just a portion of. I thought I was just paying $300 for this appt!! Why didn't she explain that this was for the entire prenatal car and not for just today? Again, I see that this is more a secretary problem than a midwife problem - but secretaries can make your life miserable if they are bad. We spent 20 minutes talking about this $300 payment and she never explained what it was for!

There is one more thing that is making me rethink this place, I found out that you get discharged shortly (like 6 hours!) after giving birth. I don't think I feel good about that. I have had two other babies (both natural births but in hospitals) and I relished being pampered by the hospital nurses for 2.5 days afterwards. I can't imagine being ready to go home and face my two other little children so soon after birth - even with my mom there they will never let me rest - much less bring me chilled juice and steak and ice cream!

Overall, I left feeling unsure I'll return. I think I may be out that $300 though.
