My family has taken our three dogs to Dr. Cowan for 4 years and have been thrilled with the care of our pets. I left my previous vet because I thought they were trying to sell me on various care options and so I lost trust in their advice. I have never felt like Dr. Cowan ever suggested an unnecessary procedure and was always wonderfully kind to my dogs (our Bull Terrier is in love with Dr. Cowan). He is also very patient with our questions and I have never felt rushed. He is always interested in feedback as to how they are doing after they leave the office.

My dog was a patient of Dr. Cowan's for 8 years, within the last week I have come to realize that I have been nothing but a paycheck to him. My dog has been misdiagnosed more than one time, & given many unnecessary medications & treatments. My most recent trip to Dr. Cowan will be my last visit with him. I will no longer allow anyone in this clinic to treat or see my dog, & I would strongly advise you to take your pet to a different vet in town. It pains me to have to say this about him as I trusted him for several years. I've probably spent somewhere around the $15,000 mark on the care of my dog, & my last trip to see Dr. Cowan I was point blank told by him that there was nothing wrong with my dog & that we could return home, after I pleaded with him to please do something for him, that he wasn't acting right. Dr even admitted himself the dog was acting as if he was in pain but still sent us on our way, but not after charging me $200 for frontline spray & shampoo. (Not even why I went to see him that morning). That night we ended up in the ER, & the next morning back in Dr Cowans office where he again had no problem charging me another $200 then sent is back to the ER. My dog ended up with acute pancreatitis & I was told if it was caught sooner he wouldn't have had to spend 4 days in ICU & I wouldn't have had to spend $3,000 on a hospital bill. He also treated my dog for a staph infection for 4 years which ended up being chiggers. I'm normally not one to blast someone on a review online for everyone to read, but I know if you are reading this then you love your pet as much as I love mine. Consider this your warning. His staff at first was incredible, until he hired a new secretary in the past year. She's very rude, & shouldn't be working anywhere near the public in my opinion. It's sad that after 8 years of loyalty to one vet, he didn't even call me one time to check the status of my dog or to see how I was doing while my dog was in ICU. He still hasn't called, & my dog was released a week ago. Apparently he's too busy to be worried about his clients who have been loyal to him for several years. This is my first review, but won't be my last. I plan on reporting him to the veterinary board as well.
