Dental Sealants

Evelina Tolchinsky, DDS, DDS

Dental sealant is a type of resin material that is applied to chewing surfaces on the back teeth, which are at a higher risk of decay than others. This preventative measure protects the grooves and pits of these teeth from plaque and food that can otherwise be difficult to clean. Dr. Tolchinsky and Dr. Trogan recommend sealants to all of our Brooklyn Heights patients, particularly for children.Dental sealants have been proven to be effective in not just preventing decay, but stopping further decay on already damaged teeth as well.In order to apply dental sealant, our dentists first clean the teeth, then “etch” teeth with an adhesive before applying the sealant. It is generally recommended that dental sealants be applied every five to ten years.
