I'm looking for a new internist, as I am completely dissatisfied with my "care" by Dr. Heller. The last straw was recently, when I was scheduled for a small procedure with a specialist, that doctor wanted me to get medical clearance. Having been dissatisfied already, I made the appt. with Dr.Heller's PA. He ordered blood work. When the results were ready, they were sent to Dr. Heller, as primary care doctor. The PA called me with the results ASAP because I was having a serious problem with anemia. The PA asked me if I was sure Dr. Heller was my primary care doctor and I said yes that I had been seeing him for about 18 months approx., and had seen him maybe about 6 times during that time. Dr. Heller, from what I was told, had called his PA when he received the blood work results, telling him that he didnt recognize my name and had not met me before. This is suppose to be the doctor coordinating my overall care. Dr. Heller has been neither proactive nor reactive. I have had to ask for what was standard care from my prior doctors. I have multipe chronic but fairly stable medical issues except for about 3 that I am receiving active treatment for. I have both medicare and a 2nd insurance, but neither pay well. I feel that perhap Dr. Heller does not put much effort or time in my care because my insurance doesn't pay much, so he doesnt put much time into chronic patients

I decided to leave Heller because he promotes himself as a holistic MD but I concluded that he's not. I saw his nurse practitioner because I had high blood pressure and she prescribed a diuretic. This is a standard allopathic approach, as I understand it. It may not be the best alternative but it’s undeniably a reasonable and appropriate one by conventional allopathic standards. There are issues with it, though (chronic dehydration has negative health effects), and it fails totally to address any underlying causes for the high BP. Concerned that this approach might be inadequate, I consulted a true holistic/integrative MD who found underlying conditions that would probably have led to a stroke or worse. He treated them all, including the high BP, successfully.

Because of this history, I decided to leave Heller and made plans to see another doctor in the hope of getting what I’d call a more attuned and attentive level of care. When Heller learned about this, he summarily dismissed me from his practice, leaving me transitionally without a primary care physician. There was no other reason for the dismissal. His arbitrary decision to do this was in my view officious, punitive, inappropriate and borderline unprofessional. I cannot recommend a doctor who dismisses a patient (punishes him, really, in my judgment) for exercising his right to choose another physician.
