I went to my appointment with the Dawson’s (Dawson Family Chiropractic) after I contacted my insurance company (Humana) to see what exactly was covered by my insurance company at the Chiropractic level. I received 4 billing codes for an initial visit, office visit, adjustments and xrays which were covered. I provided those codes to Brent Dawson on arrival for my appointment and told him this was all I wanted done. He contacted my insurance company in front of me and they confirmed these codes were covered. I had an x-ray, an initial consultation and an adjustment at this visit. I paid a co-pay of $50 but later found out from Anthem that my co-pay should have been $30. The following day I was seen at their other location (Brannon Family Chiropractic) where I had an adjustment and it was recommended that I have multiple treatments costing over $4,000.00 and none of it was covered by my insurance. I refused the treatment plan but had an adjustment and consultation and again paid the $50 copay. Six months later I receive a voice mail from Dawson Family Chiropractic stating they had “been misquoted by my insurance company” and I owed $287 but if I pay them $40 they would drop the remaining charges. I found this suspect and called to ask for a detailed statement. I received a summary statement dated 6/25/2014 and I responded with a letter on 8/17/2014 stating I wasn’t sure what they were charging me for but that I only authorized treatments that were covered by my insurance company and I wanted the charges removed and a statement showing a zero balance. On 8/25/2014 I received a collection letter from Kentucky Account Services. I contacted them and spoke with Crystal Johns and reported to her that I was disputing these charges with them and that I had already disputed the charges with Brannon Family Chiropractic on 8/18/2014. I contacted Mr. Dawson on 8/28/2014 and again asked for a detailed statement and again reported to that these charges were fraudulent. He told me that I had not met my deductible. I told him it was a chiropractic visit and that a deductible did not apply. I reminded him that I came in with the 4 approved codes and that I had only authorized services covered by those 4 codes. I sent a letter to Kentucky Account Services on 8/28/2014 to state in writing that I was disputing the charges. I contacted my insurance company and first I learned that Brannon Family Chiropractic and Dawson Family Chiropractic both charged $50 for co-pay and it should have been $30 for each visit. Then I learned that they billed my insurance company for Physical Therapy which I did not authorize and did not receive. And finally I learned that they were billing me for the balance between their price and the contract price that they have with Anthem.
