Dr. Paulsen has a gift. She has a calming presence that makes you feel at ease as soon as she walks in the room. She takes her time with each patient. She listens to your concerns. She has an uncanny sense of what is bothering someone. I have known Dr. Paulsen for almost 10 years. I would recommend her to any friend or family member needing psychiatric care.

They are one of the most polite, respectful people I've ever met. I’ve been to some other psychiatrists that really rushed my appointment, but they didn’t do that here at all. I was able to take as much time as I needed. They never have that typical, annoying music playing here. If they do play music it is soothing and appropriate for the setting.
The waiting room is pleasant, and your requests are always considered promptly.
Dr. A. Paulsen is top in her field, you won't be disappointed.

I did not feel rushed, but I had a very serious medical issue to deal with and Dr. Paulson was defensive and did not really listen to my concerns. She sits there and quietly looks at you, but she accepts phone calls while you are talking (doesn't say excuse me and step out and her staff walks in while your talking; very unprofessional). She doesn't really like to prescribe medicine (which could be good and bad).

Don't let the calm voice fool you! Yes, she has a calm voice but she does not deal well with patients voicing concern. I thought she was very friendly, until I voiced concerns (like the ones you are reading here) and her demeanor changed, although that calm voice was still there; her non verbal communciation spoke volumes. So, I think the voice is just a defense mechanism. But she does spend time talking with you if you are in a crisis, once you get in to see her.

Her front staff are rude and very indifferent. When I had the medical emergency, and called her office, her staff scheduled me for one week out. There was no concern nor questions. When I saw her she asked me why was she not notified, I told her I called her staff (but there was no notice in my chart) . I recommended a family member that really needed her help; a staff member told her incorrect information. When I complained about one of her staff members for being rude to that family member I referred (even though that same staff member ended up apologizing) I had to listen to Dr. Paulson's overly calm voice and deal with her chatisement. That family member ended up going somewhere else and was very happy.

I would not recommend anyone that has any serious medical conditions to her. If you or your child has mild ADHD; maybe. Otherwise, your loved one could suffer needlessly due to miscommunication problems, and apathetic staff and a doctor's knee jerk reaction not to prescribe and inability to listen to difference of opinions or any challenge. They are very old school (her staff's words, not mine) and they do not use computerized medical records.

Come late, otherwise you will be waiting for awhile and if you do not voice any concerns or want her staff to do anything more than answer the phone with little concern to your needs; you will love her!!! As for me, I was referred to another doctor and I have made an apppointment for the future, but I needed to obtain my refills; so I went back.
