A couple of my friends have told me about doctors that take personal phone calls during appointments, and I always thought that was so rude. Thankfully, they don't do that here, and always give me their full attention. My appointments don't usually get canceled here, but it's not unheard of either. However they will schedule me to see another Doctor in the practice if need be.

I am fortunate enough to have had Dr. DeLuca as my primary care physician for well over a decade (my first and only experience having a woman as my primary care doctor). However, I have also benefited from her excellent care and consultation in dealing with arthritis issues such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger release and other matters. Her level of medical knowledge shows ongoing refreshment and avid interest, and extends beyond rheumatology to a broad range of preliminary studies and primary medical research. (Dr. DeLuca continued her training to develop a specialization in Rheumatology while in general practice... I don't know whether she still accepts new primary care patients unless under some compassionate exception--and her compassionate concern for her patients is is truly "exceptional" in my experience.) Dr. DeLuca also demonstrates excellent manual dexterity and detailed knowledge of physiology (demonstrated, for example, in her sure and precise placement of a fine needle through a tendon sheath for local injection of a cortisone shot). She is diligent in tending to the medical issues of her patients, and has called me at home to discuss my medical emergencies that were dealt with elsewhere (such as emergency room visits, cardiac care by other specialists, etc.) and even visited me in my hospital room (after an emergency gall bladder removal) when she was not directly providing treatment.
I would add that Dr. DeLuca's commitment to her patients is also reflected in her diligent and efficient professional office staff--an often-neglected but crucial element in providing quality health care.
