Beware when you make an appoinment with Dr. Chamberlin. For example, I had a 9:15am appointment and arrived at 9:05am. A woman with a 9:30am appointment had arrived to the office before I did. Dr. Chamberlin saw her first, while I waited until 9:35am. I inquired about this with the receptionist and was told I would have to speak with Dr. Chamberlin. When I finally got to see Dr. Chamberlin I told her I was upset about the management of appointments. She told me that this is a doctor's office and if someone arrives first she will see them, regardless of appointment time. When I explained that I found it disrespectful of my time and wondered why patients should bother making appointments, she told me that is the way it is there. I chose not to stay for my appointment, even though Dr. Chamberlin insisted she would charge me for it, and I left. This is unacceptable.

I recently made an appointment for my wife to see Dr. Chamberlin. Later, I was to find that this act was not only counter productive, but was also a major disappointment.

You see, my wife suffers from mental illness. She is an absolute angel and a true gift from God. Because I care deeply for my wife, I took the initiative and contacted the office of the Glasser Medical Psychiatric Services in Gaithersburg, Maryland for an appointment.

Once she met with Doctor Maureen Chamberlin, my wife was told that this doctor would not help her. She was informed that because it takes so long to get medical records from other physicians, that the doctor ( Maureen Chamberlin ) would not be willing to treat my wife.

Additionally, she stated that since my wife had been in a hospital 6 months previous, she felt that she could not be of any help to her!

First I wonder, what does another physicians evaluations has to do with the treatment from Dr. Maureen Chamberlin. Doesn't she have enough training or confidence to make an evaluation on her own. Does she not treat the patient based upon her own impressions and diagnosis of the specific situation.

Also, if a person was admitted to a hospital for an illness, why should it be held against that poor individual seeking help. If she was healthy, should would not be admitted nor would she be seeking the help of a physician. If Doctor Maureen Chamberlin was truly a physician interested in the mental health of mankind, was would she cast rejections based upon a stay at another health facility.

Now based upon the insensitive actions of Maureen Chamberlin, my darling wife is worse off than she was prior to visiting this so-called person of compassion. She not only faced a act of rejection but she was subjected to a delay in receiving the necessary medications that she requires. This would prove to be a potentially dangerous situation.

To summarize, Doctor Maureen Chamberlin gives the appearance of being callous and insensitive to the needs of persons with mental illness. She proved to be a waste of time, effort and financial resources. Due to her actions, my wife was seriously delayed in the treatment that she so desperately needed.

All I can say is, if you care for a family member or friend with mental illness, I would certainly steer them clear of this psychiatrist with little compassion or professional ethics.

It certainly goes without saying that Hypocrates would not only be disturbed by this act of insensitivity, but ashamed of this person and the very idea of her representing a member of the medical community.
