This person was one of therapists in 1988 and ‘89. I remember this person requesting a family meeting with my father. My father was physically abusive with me. He was a reputable doctor who was beating his young daughter when he got home from work. I told very few people, if anyone, because I knew I wouldn’t be believed. Mr. LaFrenier had me sit in the same room as my abuser and proceeded to accuse me of being a manipulator and a mastermind. That I was just playing games with him and my family. He told me that any abuse I claimed was happening was all made up. He believed my abuser. I ran out of that office and never went back. I have since been diagnosed autistic. Therefore, I finally have a diagnosis on my side proving that ‘master manipulator’ is not my forté. Girls with autism may not have been acknowledged until the mid 90’s, but my care was still greatly compromised. I will be working on my complex PTSD for the rest of my life. I was robbed of the opportunity for the abuse to stop. I will never forget this man.
