After several years of fruitless treatment and lifestyle changes for our Miniature Schnauzer suffering from progressively worsening skin irritation, itching and relentless foot licking we happened upon Dr. Burkett. It would be impossible to exaggerate his methodical attention to detail. Our first visit was over one hour with extensive history taking by a very capable vet tech. Dr. Burkett literally evaluated every inch of our dog and took multiple samples of areas of interest on her skin. These samples revealed allergy with overlying MRSA and yeast infection. We spent several years following the recommendation of our general vet including medications and a diet change that necessitated daily preparation of fish and sweet potato. None of these things worked since there was never any testing to get to the underlying problem. After our initial visit with Dr. Burkett, we started treatment indicated by the lab work, and bathing with a prescribed shampoo and abandoning the daily food prep for Costco dog food. Within a few days we noted significant improvement and her skin began to clear up. After a relapse one month ago Dr. Burkett recommended an immune modulating injection. Within two days we noted significant improvement in her skin, and total remission of the itching and licking. We are now four weeks out and feel like we have a new dog. She is nearly 12 years old and has returned to the activity level she had 6 years ago. We know that her allergy issues are not cured but I have lived with allergy for 60 years and I would like to get this injection myself. She suffered NO adverse effects from the medication and we have our old dog back. If you have a pet with allergy issues you should not hesitate to seek a solution from this very competent specialty practice.
