They paid close attention to me and all of my questions were answered. Their staff is the most friendly, open, non judgemental welcoming staff I've ever dealt with. They are warm and professional, and make the whole experience that much better and educational. I was very satisfied with my visit. They were helpful and I left feeling all kinds of emotions but that was the purpose of therapy to explore the multi deminsional aspects of why we do and act the way we do. These ladies dedicated their time and energy into a program that saved my life. The office was easy enough to find. I was unable to complete my DBT Group therapy due to Hurricane Katrina. While I learned multiple coping skills and that I was not the only one put there that felt this way, I was unable to complete my entire course of therapy. Years later now being a nurse and somewhat established in my career as a nurse. I am interested in the DBT group again so I can start over and complete the therapy. I haven't self mutilated in 6 years but have a constant struggle with my body issues and effectively coping with certain aspects in my life. I believe that if I was given the opportunity to fully complete the therapy I would be able to face my own worst enemy... Myself . I will try my hardest to contact Nicole and Kelly who were the front leaders of my therapy. My sister also attended the center for multiple years for her ongoing struggle with 2 eating disorders... And we both agree that we would not be where we are today if we had not had the pleasure of attending these therapies. I plan to become a Nurse Practitioner one day and my sister will graduate in December 2012 from the Nurse Anesthesia program at Our Lady of the Lake College. I don't know if anyone is even going to read this but I have made a personal commitment to myself to come in contact with my therapist whom I admire greatly! I will say this... Even though I didnt finish the entire program I have had the honor of being able to help some of my patients I see that are in crisis to use some of the skills I was taught and even though I live in Baton Rouge I would drive to the center in New Orleans at least twice a week sometimes 3 times a week to attend my therapy on top of going to school in Hammond. I will be in New Orleans on 05/24/12 for a post op visit at Ochsner status post right lobe thyroidectomy due to a tumor that was found with potential of being cancer . So i may try to drive down to the center to possible take steps In enrolling in DBT again. I still have my binder with the sessions I was able to complete and was able to share with my Psych Nursing instructor because he had never herd of it so I was able to educate an entire nursing school on different trumped of therapies and treatments that are involved in treating patients with various personality disorders and eating disorders. Sorry to be so long winded I just would like for only one person to benefit from my story and that there's always someone out there that can relate to or even benefit from others with the same personal challenges that if you invest time in therapy and truly work towards your goals then you will eventually begin to accomplish those personal goals over time... Theres no quick fix or immediate satisfaction out of therapy. Some of those days were some of the hardest days of my life, but the greatest reward was when it all began to make sense and actually work effectively in my life.
