I am currently in patient ER Room 5 at this pathetic place that they call a hospital. I drove my brother here after his leg was ran over by a 1,500 lb Ford F-250 diesel truck. You can actually see imprints in different areas of his ankle and foot that are obviously crushed. We arrived here at 12:15am. It is now 2:00am and there has been absolutely ZERO CONTACT/INTERACTION by ANY MEMBER OF THE STAFF besides the triage nurse who showed absolutely NO compassion, empathy, bedside manner or concern with the seriousness of his injury. He asked him what his pain level was "0 being no pain at all and 10 being the worst pain he's ever felt in his life" ..my brother's response was "Seven just sitting here." Most likely meaning that it would be close to the worst pain he's ever felt if he would even attempt to put any weight on it at all. They DID NOT CHECK HIS VITALS, DID NOT ASK HIM IF HE NEEDED ANYTHING FOR PAIN (Tylenol would have been better than nothing at all), and when I asked if he could use the restroom, the nurse replied, "well you can't help him go in there?" My jaw almost hit the floor!!! Really?!?! HE JUST GOT HIS LEG ROLLED OVER BY A SMALLER VERSION OF A MONSTER TRUCK and you heartless people can't even get him a wheel chair?! I am beyond disgusted with the disgrace of the people that are supposed to be educated on Bedside Manner, Empathy, Compassion, Assertiveness, and not to mention the basics like taking vitals, asking the patient if they would like a blanket since it's so cold, actually attempting to help control and minimize the level of pain the patient is in, or even asking if they took any medications in the last 24 hours!!! Those basic things are taught to people that get a Certificate in 6 weeks and they can't even manage to do that?! I am talking about RNs here!! People that study way more than just NURSING FUNDAMENTALS and that go to school for at least 4 years and seem like they didn't make it past their sophomore year of high school. I am sick to my stomach with this place and everyone in the Emergency Department and if any of you are reading this you need to HAVE A HEART OR FIND ANOTHER CAREER FIELD. It's been almost 2 1/2 hours and my brother still hasn't even had an X-Ray done. If I wasn't raised well or if I didn't have any respect or self-control I would have told everyone back here just how lousy and downright heartless they all are. My brother won't allow me to say anything but I will be back first thing in the morning to discuss this with whoever I can get to that's the highest person in rank here. I WILL NEVER EVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE AGAIN. I thought the word "hospital" was derived from the word "hospitality?" No one here seems to comprehend that..or anything else for that matter. To anyone that may be seeking medical care, please save yourself the potential anxiety, anger and heart ache I'm feeling right now. Drive the extra 15-20 miles to Lourdes in Lafayette. It will be WELL WORTH IT..I would BET MY LIFE ON IT!!!!

I came through the ER on January 23, 2011 & I am disgusted with the care given there, the ER staff showed no professionalism or compassion for my daughter's situation. My daughter was raped. The triage nurse was horrible!!!! NO BEDSIDE MANNER AT ALL!!!! It gets better, the RN supervisor that night DID NOT KNOW WHAT SHE WAS DOING!!! The RN supervisor didn't even know how to open the rape kit. She had my daughter disrobe & her clothing was placed on the floor. Do you know how many random hairs are on an ER floor? The RN supervisor dropped evidence on the floor & at one point had evidence on top of a garbage can. Someone with proper training should be doing this. Thanks to the wonderful evidence collection at your hospital there will not be a conviction. Please thank your RN supervisor for doing such a poor job. The only staff member who displayed any type of compassion for my daughter was the lab tech that drew her blood. This woman has a heart. Everyone else that I encountered in your ER gets a big thumbs down. I have lived my entire life in Iberia Parish & I will never use this hospital again! If anyone at this hospital actually reads any of this I would love to speak with your administrator & your DON!!!Your ER staff NEEDS TO BE EDUCATED!!!! Sincerely,Tonya Skelton, RN/QA
