My 15 year old cat was diagnosed with kidney issues Saturday afternoon and I was told his special diet would be left on the back porch along with special food for my other cat. When I got there a half hour later it was obvious they had forgotten to put his K/D in the bag. I was left with food for my other cat and a receipt for both. This vet is now closed until Tuesday and my cat is obviously feeling miserable. I leave a message hoping someone checks over the weekend, but Sunday morning, having heard nothing I call the vet-referred 24 hour service, Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists in Buzzard s Bay. I explain the situation, and ask if they would sell me a can of K/D to tide him over. They refused to sell me a can without a written prescription or without subjecting my cat to an exam (and me to another hundred bucks). First of all, like they can diagnose kidney problems without waiting yet another day for blood results, and second of all like I'm gong to mainline or hook some unsuspecting cat on K/D. They refused to accept a one day old receipt from my vet, proof that I m now buying K/D for my cat, complaining that it is a prescription after all and their policy will not be broken even for one can of cat food. I tried to reason with them that receipt is proof I am buying K/D and if they really cared about animals they would sell me a can to tide us over. If they really needed a script my vet could fax them one on Tuesday, but they stonewalled me, hid behind policy and acted as though a can of prescription diet was something they had to guard closely. There is no defense for this behavior and I will never bring an animal to them.
