Pennock Village has a great location and a pleasant village culture. Unfortunately, the management is quite greedy and never invests in any renovations, even though village rent is very high and budgets are very profitable. You have to keep a constant eye on them- for instance, they were replacing stoves with cheaper units that were not self-cleaning. Old people really need to have to clean ovens, right? The hospital installs clinics in the rental units, so be aware of this as well. The hospital also appropriated their community room and only gave the residents another community room after an extensive battle. It could be a real dream of a retirement village, if it were not for the management being so far behind the times in following the guidelines for independent senior living. This is most sadly evident in their bathrooms, which are neither safe nor comfortable. They have low toilets which are not accessible, the showers are tiny and drip on the floor. They have high curbs, no room for a bench, and a fixed shower head. And worst of all, useless tubs (the old fashioned kind where a person has to climb in and out) that no senior can safely use. The bathroom floors are not slip resistant either but rather a very worn, original vinyl that is extremely slippery with even a drop of water on it. And if a resident invests their own money to make the bathroom better, they also have to give Pennock Management the funds to re-install the awful old fixtures up front! The management is also very lax about keeping the walking path to the stores in good repair so beware of trip and fall hazards. Do your loved ones a favor and pick a more enlightened area for them to happily age in place. Skip Pennock Village
