Dr. Daniel Cain is the best vet we have had for our 2 dachshunds! He very caring and has answered questions at 2:00 am in the morning when my female had puppies and was getting eclampsia. I thought I was going to lose her. And, another time he saw us in his Grantsville office in the evening for another episode similar to the first. We have boarded and had them groomed as well. Plus, you could not ask for any better ladies than Mandy and Sam at the front desk!

Daniel Cain has mostly taken over his father Joe's practice. Joe cain has been treating animals in this area for at least 50 years. Daniel has all that wisdom to draw on, plus the new things he has learned in his lifetime. Their offices are not fancy, but they are clean and they charge a fair price for services. They are country doctors that know their stuff from kittens from cows. They are a treasure for animals owners all over Gilmer, Calhoun, Roane and surrounding counties.

There was no annoying music playing while I waited or during my visit. I appreciated that they didn't have that typical elevator music on. The waiting area is rather small, but there is always a seat available. It would be nice if it was more spacious, but I've never had to stand. I never had to doubt their qualifications. They've never used foul language. They always make an extra effort to be polite and courteous.

I have only had two issues in the 5 or so years that i have taken my pets to them. Once, i had taken my puppy to get her 2nd round of vaccinations. No big deal everything went as usual.. until about a half an hour later i notice her lips, face and eyes swelling! I called them immediately and it was an allergic reaction to the medication. They were very informative, and helpful.. Definitely calmed me down, and told me what to do. That was great.
The second problem was a little bigger, my puppy was due for his second round of vaccines, but the appointment was missed, and it was rescheduled with no problem as usual. It was about 2 weeks later. So we went in the appointment went as planned and was pleasant. The vet did mention since the two weeks had passed and he was now 2 weeks older, he would go ahead and give him the amount for that age.. I thought noting of it.... but i had no idea what was gonna happen... Later that evening, about three to four hours later, my dog was acting strange, and he was shivering non stop so i went to pick him up, and when i touched him he made this awful sound as if i was killing him! It scared me so i just covered him up and kept an eye on him. My boyfreind told me not to worry to much yet. Well the next hour went by and he wasnt even wanting to move,, yelped when i picked him up again, I moved him to the kitchen where it was warmer.. he was still shivering, and just staring. He looked miserable, i was scared.. so i called a veterinary hospital, they told me to first calm myself. I did they told me he was probably having a bad reaction to the meds, and try to give him fluids.. that didnt work. I told them i would try and call back (they were very helpful and actually called me back.) Finally my boyfriend arrived with pedialite, and a small syringe.. He got him to swallow some pedialite thankfully.. He also had a children's tylenol, he crushed half of it, and gave it to him.. By that time, the puppy looked terrible, i thought he was dying. So an hour passed, and we got him to eat a little, and more pedialite. Another hour passed and he finally got out of the bed, but he fell back over twice, before stumbling around to go outside. He could barely walk. But he was getting better, and another hour passed and he was fine. I dont know what went wrong... I have a small dog, and i dont know if he may have gotten to much of the medication or what... But it was no allergic reaction... It was a very scary experience.. and i have not been back since.. I wont, i dont know what caused it, but that one mistake made me 10 times more cautious about everything for my pet. But other that that I have never had any issues with any of their services.. It just personal preference now to go elsewhere.
