Love Dr. Carter and his staff. No clinic is perfect, I have been to a few in the Valley. He gives great care to my dogs. The prices are the best in the Valley. Other Vet's charge an arm and a leg for services. And that is a shame. The animals are the ones to suffer because their owners can not afford the Vet bill. Great prices on cleaning your pet's teeth. Always ask a lot of questions and if you are uncomfortable about something, speak up. Dr. Carter does not mind you asking. It is your pet and you want the best for them. Give them a try. So sweet to my dogs Polly and Daisy.

Dr. (and I use the term very loosely)Tatum is anything but a veterinarian. Today I took a cat to her with bleeding from the nose and short labored breathing. She prescribed doxicycline and nothing else. She noted very dirty ears and did nothing. Some teeth that were questionable and she did nothing. She said if he was not improving by Monday, bring him back. Well I took him to her this morning Saturday 10-31-15 and tonight at approximately 10:00 pm,..... he's dead. She is no vet. She is a butcher. Not the first time she committed malpractice. The last time I took a cat to her that had almost explosive diarrhea. She prescribed eye drops and zenaquin. When I did a follow up letting her know that it didn't help she recommended kaopectate. Didn't work. Avoid Tatum at all costs. As long as she is there, I won't be going back. I will advise Dr Carter and Dr Gonzalez of my decision.

Great vet. He found a home for my mother's cat after Mama died. He always takes good care of my animals. I don't want to take them anywhere else.

Dr. Gina Tatum recently started there; she was my animals' vet at South River Vet... I know she will take good care of them and it's kinda weird that she moved her practice to Troutville about the same time I moved to Buchanan!

Please do not take your animals to this horrible place - the vet and staff are uncaring and incompetent. I always wondered why there was such high turnover with the staff and now I know. Take a moment to look online at the Veterinary Board website and you will see the license suspension, fines, and disciplinary actions that have been taken against Dr. Carter for mistreatment of poor, helpless animals. I made arrangements for them to board my dogs and one of the employees let them outside without collars or leashes. One ran away and the employee admitted that she went back inside the office because she assumed he would come back. He did not come back and she didn't even see which way he ran! When I arrived, the staff told me not to worry because they lose pets all the time and they always come back. They even admitted to losing another dog two weeks before mine!! These people have no business caring for animals! For nearly a month, I spent 8-10 hours each weekday and 16-10 hours on weekend days searching for my missing dog while working a full time job. I spent nearly $5,000 on flyers, newspaper ads, automated calling services, signs, posters, fuel for my vehicles, and even a tracking dog trying to find my poor terrified rescue dog, who was on his own in heavily wooded areas full of coyotes and bears with no food or water. Not once did Dr. Carter even have the decency to pick up the phone to apologize or offer to help nor did his staff assist in any way, except to wander around for an hour or so on the day that my dog was let out. Animal Control placed a humane trap behind the vets office and they couldn't even be bothered to put food in it. I was able to locate my dog a month after he went missing thanks to the efforts and kindness of strangers. He was completely emaciated, covered in ticks and fleas, had countless lacerations and had to have surgery on his leg. During the month when he was missing, I got hundreds of messages, calls, and texts from former customers and former employees of Old Dominion who had horrible experiences with the place and wouldn't set foot in there now. Please do your research and find a responsible vet with well-trained staff (preferably licensed vet techs not just random people with no experience and no common sense or compassion for animals). This place should never have been allowed to reopen after it was shut down and Dr. Carter's license to practice was suspended last time!!
