Cold, uncaring, place where there is very little humane intervention for the dying patient. Dark dingy rooms, often with a tv blaring. Goal is to keep patient sedated and end life asap. This was the experience of my mother-in-law, who was the kindest person and did not deserve this place in the end. No loved one of mine will ever go here.

I updated my google review of Vitas Nazareth
Cold, uncaring, and evil. They hastened my father’s death so they didn’t have to be bothered with him. He spent 1 day there. When we called to speak with him, the attitude we received was that we were a bother. They told us he was sleeping, or “out cold on morphine.” Our father went in eating and talking one day, and the next he was drugged, unresponsive, and close to death. On the morning of the day of his death, after his 1 night there, he called me at 8 am to tell me it seemed like things weren’t going as they should be. Then they drugged him again and he never woke up. No one called us to tell us how badly he was doing. I fully believe if we hadn’t visited we just would have gotten a middle of the night phone call telling us he was gone. . . IF they could be bothered. We pulled him out that night and he passed in the ambulance on his way home. My father was a good man and a veteran, who led a life always putting his family before himself, and he did not deserve to be treated as an inconvenience in his time of greatest need and vulnerability.

Worst place ever. Vitas sales rep went into hospital during covid -19 ( legal case against Vitas for this) Sales rep did not allow my loved one to call a family member on FaceTime when the rep was there to help make the decision. Did not tell my loved one that all his medications would be discontinued. None of the nurses knew what his diagnosis even was. The first night he was at the hospice, nurse kept on coming in and telling him he had to go to bed, and it get off the phone. It was only 9:00pm. They started giving him medication but did not tell him what it was. ( morphine but he was not in pain) After a few days of him not being on his antibiotics his infection came back in his hand and it was painful. Instead of starting him back on the antibiotics they pumped him with morphine, OxyContin, haladol and Ativan every hour. He was completely sedated. Could not feed himself, talk or swallow. Vitas Billed Medicaid the maximum amount for those days. We brought him home and took him off narcotics and got him sitting, walking, and moving around. Then because of family drama and his sister did not want him in her home. He went back to inpatient. Medicaid or Medicare only pay in Pennsylvania for a maximum hospice benefit of 29,000 once that amount is reached any other services the patient uses, Vitas has to pay back the government. As soon as my loved ones bill exactly was at the 29,000 cap he died. A week before he went to hospice the doctor referred him to rehab but he could not find a place that would except his crappy medical insurance. Vitas took it for the $29,000. All they care about is money. Every patient on the floor is sedated. None of them are ever awake. There is no bathroom or shower in any of the rooms. I found that very strange. Stay far far away from Vitas Hospice.
