I always heard that hospice care is wondefule and comforting helping the patient and the family. Well I beg to differ. This organization offered me more stress than comfort. My brother had pancreatic cancer. We decided to go with this hospice because they would transport if needed depening on palliative or curative care. The first 2 nurses that visited were rude and uncaring. The first SW was worthless nad the 2nd was a close second. We kept asking for help but they said for24hr care the patienlyhad to be actively dying. Finally when he was actively dying we called at 3AM and they told us we were doing the right thing and we were doing fine. When the CNA arrived 12 hours later she was appalled that the nurse hadn't come yet. She called te nurse who said she'd get ther when she could and then 20 minutes later my brother died and the nurse was called again. He died at 1:15 pm but the nurse and SW put time if death as 2:15 because that's when they FINALLY got there. Then advised me I would have had to ask for 24 hour care and they saw no indication of me asking. Really?? I asked over and over. Is that comforting? Supplies - what a joke - stage3 bed sore and they sent one bandge a week. We went and spent $100+ for bandages cause we nearly changed it every day. Oh did I mention that my brother was indigent and was on Medicaid. Hmmmm seems to me that's why he got shoddy care - no big donaton after it was over would be forthcoming. He received sub standard care all through his illness and was not afforded the same opportunities and cutting edge treatments because he was on Medicaid. Not even PT to help him walk (medicaid doesn'tpay) so he couldn't walk for the last 3 months of his life. I think that's a right not a privilage. So if youneed hospice services and you don't have good insurance don't use thi service. In fact I wouldn't recommend them at all. I know this won't be read by any of the powers that be cause patients aren't the bottom line, Money is. But at lease hopefully someone will read this and it may sway their decision. I'm not one to complain I usually accept things as they come but this service was unacceptable.

I am so upset with this organization. They came to se us in the last 24 hours of my mothers life. They talked us into signing up with them, promised the world and delivered nothing. NOT EVEN A PHONE CALL. The social worker promised a visit from a nurse during the evening hours. My mother passed at 4 am and we never did see a nurse from Health First Hospice. After her passing we did not receive one phone call. Would never use or recommend this organization. There are better in the area.
