An Allina hospitalist falsely declared my mother terminally ill and pushed a family member to agree to place her in a one-star nursing home with Allina doctors who were staff members. It took eight months to get my mother off hospice, and she did not receive adequate care or any stroke rehabilitation either then or since. There was absolutely nothing wrong with my mother, and she lost all her assets as a result of this, and is still in the one-star dump of a nursing home years later. My mother was in a stroke rehab facility for just a few days, when an Allina doctor put her in the hospital for an "infection", then declared she was dying of an infection that could not be cured. My mother was not at all ill. Allina makes massive profits when they do this.

Our family is very disappointed with this service. My mom was brought home on Sunday, 1/20. On Monday a nurse came out and asked if we needed supplies, what services we wanted, etc. We ordered supplies, asked for a social worker and a home health aide. The next day another nurse came out which confused us because they were supposed to come out again on Thursday. We advised that we ordered the supplies and asked for a home health nurse. She looked on her computer and couldn’t see that anything was ordered. She reordered everything and signed us up for a home health nurse. On a Wednesday we were talking to a private company about overnight service and she asked about the medicacation packet hospice provided. We never received one! We called and it was couriered out it 3 hours. It’s now Thursday and we had to contact them again because and still don’t have supplies or haven’t received a call about a home health nurse. They are looking into it. The staff we met were all very nice but we are so thoroughly disappointed in Alina Hospice.

I used Allina home hospice for my elderly mother, had problems. Some of their people were good but one was very bad. When I switched providers to Brighton, I was amazed at how different and better the service was. My advice is to shop around before getting pushed to Allina!

Allina Hospice is not living up to their Medicare requirements to provide an adequate level of support for my mother. They have never even explained to me the levels of care other than respite.

Last week, my mom went into a facility for respite hospice care. She began to experience terminal agitation, which from everything I read - even Allina's own materials - is a relatively common experience when people are dying.

I got daily phone calls from the home hospice team about the fact that the respite care site did not feel like they could manage her, and then taken down a lot of blind alleys in trying to find a place where she could go after respite until being told the morning of her release from respite that no facility would take her. At no time was I offered the choice to have continuous care at home when she was discharged. A social worker said "So you are okay with having her home?, and my response was "no, but you are telling me it is my only option". They sent a nurse out for a brief visit to help me understand what medications to give. This schedule is requiring me as a single mother with 2 children at home to give medications every 2 hours even at night.

I am unable to plan for my mother's funeral/cremation and deal with my feelings about losing her because all my energy is taken up with her care and the exhaustion of the changing stories and lack of support from this team. No person or family should have to live through this stress of top of the stress of dealing with a loved one dying.
