My mother stayed at this nursing home this past summer and it was a wonderful experience! The staff took the time to truly get to know my mom and would always treat her with dignity and respect. The entire staff was wonderful from the nurses to housekeeping. Everybody was always smiling, pleasant, and very helpful! You can tell they have a great team! The therapy was stellar! I couldn't recommend this place more! I would never go anywhere else!

There'll be no stars for the West Bloomfield Nursing & Convalescent Center from me! In fact, if the option were presented, I'd give it two thumbs down and I'm sure my mom would add her thumbs as well! My mom is long dead now. She died 13 years ago of emphysema but the way she was treated at this facility still rankles. Here's what happened: My mom was referred to this facility by Beaumont Hospital for physical therapy after a prolonged hospital stay had rendered her unable to fully move her arms and legs. I should say the rehab specialists don't figure into this review since mom found them to be excellent, but, on a day-to-day basis, the care here was atrocious. Mom told me that when she rang for help, it consistently took ages for anyone to come to her aid. Then, one day, a careless staff member's negligence in transferring mom from her wheelchair to the toilet, caused mom to fall into her wheelchair gashing her delicate, crepe-paper-flesh (the result of her meds) and requiring a trip to the emergency room for stitches. I can't remember now how many but I think it was actually in the double digits. When my mom returned to the West Bloomfield Nursing Home, the staff's failure to properly care for her wound caused the injury to develop an angry infection. Fed up with everything Beaumont, my mom asked to be transferred for treatment to Providence Hospital in Southfield, which she found much more agreeable, and from there she was referred to the Straith Clinic in Southfield (which she loved) for the remainder of her therapy. Seeing as the West Bloomfield Facility was responsible not only for mom's injury but for allowing it to then become infected, I asked administrators, when I went to pick up mom's stuff, if they'd be so kind as to waive her last room and board charges. After all, she hadn't used their facility since she was at Providence for a problem they caused. I couldn't believe it when they insisted mom pay the expensive charges! Because, at the time, I was overwhelmed with caring for mom, and because she raised me to believe litigation is de-classe, I never did pursue legal action. But, in a way, I'm sorry I didn't. I feel confident any fair judge or jury would have seen things my way. As it is, I'll be happy now if this review keeps even one individual from having to go through what my mom did at this despicable facility! And thank God my mom was in her right mind! If they treat lucid elderly patients in this manner, imagine how badly they must treat the feeble-minded!

I was very unimpressed with their level of skill. It seemed like they had just started yesterday. I plan on telling everyone I know about how terrible this nursing home assistants are. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. When comparing them to others in their field, I would say they are by far the worst I have ever seen although I have only seen 3 at this time. My family will never return. Their business offices were well organized and clean. The nursing assistants were treating my grandmother "Like a dog" in her own words and she is very well aware of her surroundings! The staff would leave her in a soiled diaper and when she called for help they would not come for at least half hour. She was left on the toilet for a very long time and ignored. She can not walk on her own so they needed to assist her. They would not assist her in eating her meals, they would just drop her tray on her table and leave when she asked for help they would ignore her. I witnessed this first hand when I arrived at lunch time and my grandmother was trying to talk to the nursing assistant who brought her the tray and because my grandmother's speech is not the best, the nursing assistant just walked away not taking time at ALL to try and understand her needs which were a SIMPLE pack of Mayo! The nursing assistant blew up at me with an attitude when I came out of the pantry asking for mayo, I had no idea that she had already brought my grandmother some and she insisted it was there. She didn't take the time to tell me she WENT to her room and gave some to my grandmother, she just assumed that I knew. LACK OF COMMUNICATION IS HUGE HERE!!! Also, a USED NEEDLE was left on the Television Stand!! Overall, I would insist that the State of Michigan get involved now, which will happen in my grandmothers case. A variance report will be issued!! LOOK into Nursing homes before you decide!
One more thing, the call button would be pressed by my grandmother and they would ignore that most of the time.

Some of the aids would come in to talk and hide from the others. Sometimes I would put my light on and ask for a pain pill and it took over an hour for the aids to come in!!. Once my daughter asked for a blanket ..there were 4 sitting at the nurses station and they told her that her mothers aid could get it for her! REALLY ??? SHE GOT IT HERSELF! The food was good. They try! There was a few times my daughter would come in and find me in the bathroom waiting for an aid! Thank god for us patients that have family to come and look in on us! I feel sorry for the patients who don't!!
