My mother has been a resident on the Memory Care unit for a little over a year now. She had been a resident at The Arbors, then The Huntington, then The Newport, all VHS facilities, before needing the security and stimulation of a memory care unit. I have to admit, the transition for the family was not easy. When we first visited the memory care unit, we found it depressing and scary and were afraid she wouldn't adjust, but we were pleasantly surprised. The staff is very attached to the residents. They are wonderful with my mother. They provide activities to stimulate her and articles for her to handle and entertain herself. Any time I have a concern, they listen and we work it out. She receives 3 meals a day plus snacks. When she loses interest in food, they help and encourage her. They keep me informed about everything. The nurses and aids are compassionate and caring. The admin staff is there anytime I have a business related question or problem. The social worker stays in contact. I feel like all of these people have become extended family and I'm so glad they are there to take care of my family member.
