I wish to God I would have read the reviews prior to moving my mother to this facility. My mom was in this facility for a little less than 4 months. Primarily because she had fallen several times in her own apartment and we were hopeing to get her back on the mend. Now mind you there were alarms on the bed and the wheel chairs, does anyone "quickly respond" don't count on it. My mother fell four time during her stay, the last fall and the resulting complications finally took her. Granted my mom was 90 years old, but does that mean she should be ignored, lets face it she did not move at the speed of light when these alarms would go off. When my brother visited mom tried to repostion herself in the wheel chair, the alarm when off no one ever showed up to see if there was a problem. I was told repeatadly mom was dehydrating and not drinking enough, but yet more often than not I would come in after work and her water bottle would either be across the room (unreachable to her) empty or just not there. When she had water she always drank. I found only two of the staff to be kind and receptive, the rest of the staff was continually occupied at the nurses station "documenting" It seems if they devoted more time to the care of the residents they would not have to document so much. When my mother was discharged to Hospice Care she was sent to Windermere where she had wonderful care for her final days. If only I could have had her in there to begin with she may still have been here today.

My grandmother was living in this institution for almost a year. She was classified as "self-pay" which means the institution received $7000.00 a month from my grandmother...out of her pocket. When trying to think of one positive thing I could mention, it is extremely hard. There were two aides/nurses (forgive me) that my grandmother liked very much. Other than that, I have nothing else. She shared a room. She stayed in her hospital bed approximately 95% of her time. She payed extra for laundry service that ended up losing random articles of her clothing. The food provided was along the lines of a high school cafeteria. The cleanliness, actually, the incredible lack of cleanliness is amazing. My wife and I would clean her "area" on our visits. Picking up trash, removing trays of food left over from breakfast. Unbelievable! I now understand the incredible lack of respect and concern we have for our elderly. My grandmother lived a wonderful life and to think the last days of her 90 years on this earth would be in a place like this, is beside me. I believe that if she never entered Sentara Nursing Center, she would still be alive today. She lost all of her zeal and zest for life and gave up. I honestly would too, if I was subjected to an environment like this. May God bless all of the people in that facility. Please look at all of your resources and places out there before making a decision. I know it can be difficult at times, but do your homework and visit places to find the right place for your loved one to live. God Bless!
